Surely not! We should be doing MORE to prevent premature deaths, not less @NHSEngland
Also, where is the overdue LeDeR report?
Enough is enough!
Concerning rumours that annual health checks for people with a learning disability in primary care may be de-prioritised. This is not in keeping with a focus on prevention! @NHSEngland @DHSCgovuk @LdSenate @rcpsych @rcgp

Three modes of organising for improvement:
(1) Doing things well
(2) Doing things better
(3) Doing better things
An organisational improvement strategy should focus on all three. Many organisations currently are overfocussed on (1) & (2) and under focussed on (3). This is risky because we can end up focused on improving the "wrong" or suboptimal things. The environment of change that we find ourselves in means that we have to focus increasingly on (3). It won't happen unless we build in the time & space for connection, collaboration, experimentation & learning into daily work.
I adapted this table from content in "Improving quality in healthcare: questioning the work for effective change" by Murray Anderson-Wallace & Nick Downham. I really like this book, written by highly experienced practitioners: us.sagepub.com/en-us/nam/imp….
Hi Everyone - I work in the NHS with people with learning disabilities and autism. Our Music Therapist is helping people who struggle to talk to communicate through sound and music. She is looking for donations of keyboards (touch sensitive) synths and Rhodes.

People with a learning disability are more likely to get Type 2 diabetes than other people.
It is important to speak to your doctor (GP) if you are worried about this.

Had a wonderful night conversing with @johnharris1969 at the @FestOfDebate.
His book is beautifully written; filled with music, love, laughter & pain many parents face, trying to walk the path of getting our Autistic kids needs acknowledged & met.

News. A coalition of disability charities has said it is the “height of contempt” that the government is asking disabled people to consult on life-changing new welfare benefit laws without providing accessible formats.

Alexithymia is very common among autistic people; research indicates that at least 49.93%[1] of us have alexithymia—or even as high as 85% with slight to severe alexithymia[2]—compared to 4.89–13% in the general population.[3][4][5].

Always switch off the self view! You are who you are and it’s not natural to be able to see it like that!
New research shows that fatigue from Teams, Zoom and other virtual meetings is a demonstrable neurological phenomenon. It differs from the fatigue experienced in face-to-face settings (brain images show that). Certain platform features, such as seeing our own faces, makes the fatigue worse.
Scientifically-based strategies to address "Teams fatigue":
1) Mix in some audio-only meetings (eg, phone calls/conference calls): this reduces the cognitive load and means people can move about during the meeting
2) Try to stick with one platform: switching between Teams, Zoom, Google Meet etc, makes the fatigue worse
3) Practice "IT mindfulness": actively explore & adapt the technology to better suit your needs
4) Switch off the "self-view" function (so others can see your face on screen but you cant): in virtual settings, maintaining a continuous self-view can unintentionally affect both individual performance & group dynamics
