RIP. Texas Deputy Sheriff Adam Sherifi, who gave his life in the line of duty, is the 77th officer lost in 2026.
Deputy Sheriff Adam Sherifi, 31, was murdered when he was shot and killed while serving a felony warrant at the 4300 block of State Highway 198 in Van Zandt County.
Deputy Sherifi was assisting Canton police officers serving outstanding warrants for aggravated assault and aggravated assault on a peace officer. Around 10:22 p.m., shots were fired from the home and toward officers outside the residence, and gunfire was exchanged. Deputy Sherifi was mortally wounded and died at the scene.
A Canton Police Officer was flown to a hospital in Plano in stable condition, the officer will be having surgery on his arm, where he sustained the gunshot wound.
The suspect was found deceased inside the home.
Deputy Sherifi leaves behind his wife, Kyleigh, and three children, including a newborn baby born in September, just weeks before his tragic death.
His wife remembered him as a brave, strong, and kind man who laughed hard and loved even harder.

Gina Brooks vanished at 13. Thirty-seven years later, the search continues.
Gina was last seen riding her bike on Aug. 5, 1989, in Fredericktown, Missouri. She has not been seen since.

Brandon Boudreaux is speaking out on @DatelineNBC this Friday in an episode titled βBlindsided.β
Boudreaux was previously married to Lori Daybellβs niece, Melani Pawlowski, and was the target of a murder plot for which Lori was convicted in 2025.
A gunman, presumably Alex Cox, opened fire on him but missed.
In a conversation with Keith Morrison, Boudreaux opens up about Loriβs involvement in the breakdown of his marriage, and the striking similarities to what Loriβs then-husband, Charles, had experienced.
Shortly before Charles was murdered, Boudreaux recalls reconnecting with him after discovering that someone had blocked Charles' calls and messages. Boudreaux alleges Melani was the only one who had access to his phone.
βI apologized to him. I missed the mark. I wasn't there enough for him. I could have done more. I could have been better while he was going through this and so I told him and he forgave me and said he loved me and said he understood and we talked through things and he reminded me how he'd been warning me,β he explained.
Boudreaux added, βHe even sent me a text that I didn't get because my phone was blocked. And he told me, βHey, Lori is going to convince Melani that you're gay.ββ
Additionally, Morrison speaks with Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell about the possibility anyone else would be charged in the attempted shooting of Boudreaux, including his ex-wife.
Pressed by Morrison, Mitchell explained that if the Gilbert, Arizona Police Department wanted to take another look at the case, she was βcertainlyβ open to reviewing it. The Gilbert Police Department also told Dateline that the investigation is βcurrently active.β
Pawlowski has never been charged and through her lawyers, declined to comment to Dateline.
During βBlindsidedβ, Morrison speaks with Boudreauxβs family and friends, prosecutor Rob Wood and more key players in the case. His 2020 interview with Pawlowski is also revisited.
The special is the eighth broadcast from Dateline on the Lori Vallow Daybell case, which the broadcast has covered since the beginning.

Brooke Strattan left behind a heartbreaking record of her fear.
According to the criminal complaint, an August 2024 journal entry described her boyfriend, James Barnes-Morris, beating her and nearly killing her multiple times.
On October 3, the 24-year-old was found dead in a Madison, Wisconsin, retention pond. Her words remain a devastating part of her story.
