In case I have any followers that work on Webkit: there's a bug that shipped w/ Safari 16 that affects some very basic uses of canvas. I don't see a great way to work around this systematically.

Accessibility is not just about the end result, but about the experience. If I can get it done, but it’s 10X more frustrating and takes 10X longer for me as a blind user, it’s not truly accessible. Ultimately, #a11y is about equity of opportunity as well as experience.

Debate is not much of a truth-seeking activity. It’s a parody of truth-seeking in which uncertainty and ambiguity are perceived liabilities. To advocate for a text means omitting whatever careful qualifications its author has made, delivering it as its own reductio ad absurdum.

Early on in my career I sometimes used exercises where I asked students to adopt opposed positions from texts and debate each other. It usually didn't work well.
Now I use exercises where I ask students to imagine how they would teach texts to other people. It works well.

It's bewildering that there is so little public funding available to develop and maintain infrastructure that is useful to many researchers compared to the funding that is available to individual researchers to do their own research.

∞ is not a Real number, but some explanations for why not claim too much.
“∞ is not real because ∞-∞ is indeterminate,” but 0 is Real even though 0/0 is indeterminate.
“∞ can only be approached as a limit”, but √2 is also only approached as a limit (of rationals).
It’s hard to correctly say why ∞ is not real without either bringing up the definition of a field (axiomatic approach), or the concept of convergence of sequences (constructive approach).
