The last 2.5 years of my life have been completely consumed by crypto
Every morning I wake up and get on my PC for 14-16 hours. Iโm not always clicking in and out of coins, but the entire time Iโm thinking about crypto and at the very least scrolling CT/in group chats
I dropped out of college at the beginning of my sophomore year to do this. The reason I'm writing this though is because itโs just now hitting me that Iโm turning 21 in a few months, which is crazy to think about because I started crypto when I just turned 18
Obviously time flies, thatโs not a new concept. But whatโs crazier is that I donโt remember the last years in terms of irl memories (vacations, hangouts, college events, etc), but rather in metas onchain:
Presales (bome/slerf) -> Moodeng -> AI -> ICM/launchcoin -> Bonk -> CCM -> BNB -> 10/10 -> Bags -> Moltbook -> Asteroid -> Ansem/creator coins -> RH
I can remember what coins were doing well in April 2024 or October 2025, but I can't remember what was going on in my real life during those times
This is actually pretty weird, and because of it, part of me thinks Iโm wasting my life. But itโs not as simple as that either
On one hand, Iโm really grateful for being able to trade full time, especially at a young age
If you asked me when I was 14-17 y/o what I wanted to do for a living, I wouldnโt have an answer. I just liked playing video games, cheated on every test in high school, and fucked around with my friends
But if you described trading crypto and the lifestyle surrounding it, I wouldโve been very happy to do that
And I still am happy now to trade every single day
I'm not writing this because I hate trading or want to quit. If anything, it's because trading has taken up too much of my life since I enjoy it so much
Anyways on top of that, college really wasnโt for me, so I donโt regret dropping out
I think the whole "college experience" thing is very overrated now, especially compared to how pre-covid graduates describe it
Most people are extremely antisocial now, so good luck making friends. If you're interested in dating, that's even worse regardless of being a boy or girl (for obvious reasons you've probably seen many posts on already)
No jobs or majors were interesting to me either
Pessimistic outlook, but this was just my experience and why I don't feel like I missed out on much (especially since my best friends are people I met online anyways)
I know I come off as a jester on Twitter, but I seriously have dedicated my existence to trading
Not only do I not want to take breaks/vacations, but I canโt even enjoy them when I do because I feel like I need to be locked in 24/7 to keep my edge
Nothing really interests me as much as crypto anyways
Even when I'm out of the house for whatever reason, I'm on my phone keeping up with trading group chats so I don't miss anything
In the early stages of your career (especially a self-reliant one like trading crypto), I donโt think you can really have โbalanceโ if you want to be very successful
In the pursuit of freedom, you have to become a slave to whatever it is you're working on
None of us know how long our edge in this market will last. You have to squeeze as much as possible out of the guaranteed present
Onchain is just too competitive and you will be left behind if crypto ISN'T your life
Even if this isn't 100% true for everyone, my screentime is a big part of what made me successful
(There's recently been an agenda pushing against the high screentime approach of crypto. I think this is dumb, but that's a post for another day)
I also know Iโm cucking myself out of "normal" life experiences for my age and not taking advantage of the money I have now, but I kinda have to do it
95% of people never find something theyโre truly good at AND enjoy
If you're reading this and can live off trading, then you have been blessed enough to have found it (even if it's not permanent)
Being this lucky and not taking full advantage of it would be extremely ungrateful
Despite all that though, it's hard to not think about the opportunity cost of giving everything to crypto
Family, relationships, friends, and general experiences aren't things that can just be "made up" for later the same way you can with money
Specifically if you want to get married or in a relationship, especially at a younger age, how can you expect to find someone if you're sitting in your house all day and not wiling to give up a few hours to pursue that?
But at the same time, what if $TRUMP 2 drops when you're outside? (rhetorical question, but this is something every trencher struggles with despite having irl goals they genuinely want to achieve)
Trading is not linear whatsoever, so there's always the possibility that the next time you log off, you miss something that could've made up for months of underperformance (there will also probably be another solid opportunity 1 week later)
The opportunity cost exists in the other direction too though:
What if because you didn't go to grocery store today since you were busy trading, you couldn't run intoyour future best friend or girlfriend?
No matter how much you love it, the trenching lifestyle just isn't sustainable past a certain age
There are so many things I want out of life beyond money, but none of my daily actions are moving me towards them
It's just a weird dilemma because I don't regret the last 2-3 years at all. For now, I'll stay focused on trading and I think that's the right decision
But eventually I'll have to take the initiative to just start doing things irl, no matter how much or little money I have
Anyways, what I've described aren't unique experiences or feelings. I think most people can relate to this and there are definitely others putting in way more hours than me and have been for more years
Not looking for advice or anything, just wanted to post this tbh since it's something I've felt for a while now
when you're so down bad on a coin you start checking charts of previous runners to see if they had similar drawdowns before mooning ๐ญ๐ญ
saturday appreciation post for the following:
@PengBoy555 @NATE9169 @poopypee6741
they make me laugh every single day and are the most loyal friends you could ask for
Mfs will roundtrip 7 figs then say some corny shit like โdonโt lose your soul chasing SOLโ ๐ญ
i would say @Quanterty is a good trader, maybe one of the best honestly
he just needs to work on his entries, exits, narrative analysis, research process, clutch factor, adaptability, sizing, intuition, time in the market, risk management, patience, comms in group chats, cutting losses, discipline, pattern recognition, sleep schedule, journaling, wallet tracking, workplace organization, timing, building conviction, knowing when to sit on his hands, and overall understanding of crypto
some of the brightest minds in the world are working to figure out how to onboard Lacy to the trenches.
everything will be ok.
A lot of people are QRTing with stuff like โ2k in zec last year is 12k nowโ or "you don't always have to be doing something to make money"
You're right and I have nothing wrong with holding spot. I hold spot crypto myself in addition to trading everyday. But my point is that for these coins specifically, it's not "last year" anymore
Let's say you live in a first world country and $ZEC goes 75x (EXTREMELY optimistic scenario, this means it flips $BTC)
You'd make ~$150k pre-tax. Being very generous, this is enough for like 4 years of expenses in America
This is obviously a good (and rare) outcome because you just lived life, held a coin on the side, and now you're up 6 figs. Most people lose holding altcoins, so this is something to be proud of. Not to mention you could also probably compound this into more gains if you hit another good trade
But whether this is satisfying for you depends on your perspective on trading/life
For me, it isn't enough and it isn't why I started trading crypto
Most of us got into crypto to truly "make it," not to just make 100-200k then go back to the same life
I started crypto with a very small amount of money. I could've bought Solana my first day, held for a year, and 3xed my money
Instead I took a bigger financial/time risk and traded my way up onchain with that same money, eventually outperforming SOL by many multiples
(Now I can buy an amount of spot crypto that would actually net significant returns if I choose the right coins AND have money on the side to trade with)
There's definitely a version of me that zeroed out and quit trading entirely, but I still would've preferred this over taking the "safe route" given I was already pretty much at 0 and because I genuinely enjoyed trading
Not to mention that "spot and chill" isn't as easy as CT makes it out to be:
I could've bought $ZEC at $50, held to $700, then sold the bottom at $200 before it went to 1.6k
Or I could've full ported celestia:native instead of $SOL and still zeroed out. Just like there are countless scams in the trenches, there are also countless "scam" alts that trend to 0 when paired against anything
Trenching obviously carries more risks and won't work for everyone, but my perspective is just that you need a solid amount of capital for it to even be worth buying spot, which is why I tweeted that (as a joke) in the first place
