Using recognition to compensate for poor or uncompetitive pay is a foolish strategy. Once employees realize they're being praised instead of fairly paid, they'll resent the company not only for underpaying them, but for trying to manipulate them into accepting it. #Leadership #Trust #HR #Management #WellBeing #LeadFromTheHeart

At 4 years old, Meadow Boes has undergone 3 heart surgeries. ❤️ Inspired by children like her, USF researchers are developing living heart valves that integrate with the body and adapt as patients grow, potentially reducing the need for repeated surgeries. ow.ly/MuK050ZWm8e

Many managers think holding people accountable means turning up the pressure and putting them into fear. It’s actually the opposite. When you run people on anxiety and adrenaline, you get burnt-out workers making safe, defensive choices. Teach people to perform their jobs, let them control how they do the work -- offer encouragement and appreciation -- and they'll take ownership of the outcome. #Leadership #HR #LeadFromTheHeart #WellBeing

Ego causes leaders to over-estimate their own talent and underestimate the talent of others. Ego makes leaders over-manage and under-lead.

Does the work you do matter? The answer isn’t in the job…it’s what you do in that job that makes the difference.

What do you love to do? What are you good at doing? What does the world need? The answers to these three questions form the foundation of a great career. Many people stop at the first two—focusing only on what they enjoy or what they are skilled at. While important, love and talent alone are not enough. A truly great career connects both with a third element: the real needs of the world. If you only do what you love, you may find joy but not lasting impact. If you only do what you are good at, you may achieve success but not fulfillment. And if you only focus on the needs of the world, you may end up exhausted or uninspired. The magic happens when all three align. That’s when your career becomes more than a job - it becomes a professional life! Life is good. Marshall Please visit MarshallGoldsmith.ai. It may have some great ideas to help you in your career journey.

I used to think high performers were just impatient. Then I realized they answer messages while they're still warm. They move on ideas the same day. They refuse to waste the one thing they can't buy more of. Time gets their full respect.

Your career is no longer a ladder, and waiting patiently for the next rung may be the most dangerous strategy of all. I learned this the hard way. I’ve been laid off, passed over, reassigned and rejected by 3,058 employers and more than 900 publishers. My career never resembled a ladder. It looked more like a pinball machine. But every detour prepared me for something I couldn’t see yet: The call center taught me to listen. Retail taught me to create experiences. Enterprise sales taught me to build coalitions. Leadership taught me to create heroes. Rejection taught me to stop waiting for permission. And relationships repeatedly opened doors no career plan could have predicted. As I wrote in The Show Must Go On, every role I’ve ever landed came through relationships, reputation or both—but mostly relationships. Here’s how to futureproof and bulletproof your career: 🧭 Build a career thesis, not a rigid five-year plan. 🧠 Develop valuable skills beyond your current job description. 🤝 Invest in relationships long before you need anything. 📣 Teach, write and share what you learn so your expertise becomes visible. 📊 Quantify your impact and maintain a career highlight reel. 🪪 Build a walking deck that shows who you are, what you’ve done and what becomes possible when you enter the room. 🚪 Say yes to stretch projects that expand your skills, visibility and relationships. 🛡️ Build a reputation that can travel when your title, manager or company changes. Titles expire. Organizations restructure. Strategies change. But your skills, relationships, results, reputation and story belong to you. Stop waiting to be chosen for the next rung. Build enough value, visibility and relationships to create choices no ladder could ever offer you. What are you building today that no reorganization can take away from you? Do you have a Career Walking Deck that showcases your experiences, results and what people say about you? You need one. I modeled mine after my mentors'.
