Why should the AI alignment problem be prioritized when the human alignment problem is still open, with little recent progress?
We already have a paperclip maximization machine.
We call it capitalism. It causes people to maximize individual wealth at the expense of all else.

Here's a KL mystery you can help me solve. For years, two French street signs have inexplicably stood high in a Chow Kit back alley intersection. Rue de Rivoli is in Paris, Rue Assalit in Nice. But no business I can trace in the area from 2013-2022 is French themed.

I don’t think Piketty understands Merchants? I mean merchants care about Making Money. That should be on the top of the list.

I pick movies to watch based on their trailers, so I’d love it if reviews were written based on them. E.g., Top Gun the movie is exactly the movie you think you’re gonna get from the trailer. The Everything, Everywhere trailer looks nuts but the movie is even nuttier etc.
From the Berkshire Hathaway annual letter: “Every year, your company makes substantial federal income tax payments. In 2021, for example, we paid $3.3 billion while the U.S. Treasury reported total corporate income-tax receipts of $402 billion.”
Mary Oliver: "Listen, are you breathing just a little, and calling it a life?"
Me: OK I'll just breath a little more.
I've noticed some New Yorkers referencing train lines when they post about where they live so let me just say that I live near Times Square 1/2/3/7/A/C/E/B/D/F/M/W/R/Q/N/S/
I'm a fan of doing incremental rewrites of codebases. Meaning, to rewrite parts of a codebase while the old code is still running ... until all the old code is gone. I think I'm finally getting right with the THIRD rewrite.
There are many amazing nuggets from this article but I still can't get over that they tried reforming Jihadists by making them do corporate capitalism in prison and it sounds like its working?? theatlantic.com/magazine/arc…

If being in every Jackass movie, xXx, Police Academy 4 and Sharknado 5 doesn’t qualify me to present at the Oscars, then your taste in movies needs readjusting.
There’s a joke that if you like an actor enough you’d be happy to watch him recite his groceries list. I’m about to read an entire book about Haruki Murakami’s T Shirts.
