Want to improve student attendance? Then decrease classroom spread of preventable illness. California shows how to do it. xitter.cf/sri_srikrishna/status/…
Big news indeed. On 11/06/24, California 🥑public health (CDPH) updated its recommendations for occupied classrooms to the higher of the two: A. 30 cubic feet per minute per person (30 cfm / p) similar to ASHRAE 241 B. 5 air changes per hour (5 ACH) recommended by CDC

No city should provide funding for sports stadiums, unless perhaps the public retains owner and control. Public funding should mean free speech. Free Palestine.
Replying to @justinpodur
Well, technically a group of Zionist billionaires who own different stadiums/venues and know each other through sports team ownership and entertainment biz connections, but yes, basically.

Some leaders need to hear this: If you say the mayor who lied about poison in NYC after 9/11 should attend the memorial ceremony, but the mayor who revealed those lies shouldn’t—you’re not supporting survivors, honoring victims, or being patriotic. You’re probably just a bigot.

Outrageous
Ha'aretz reports that Hamas, through Qatar, conveyed immediately on Oct. 7 that they were willing to return all the civilian hostages for nothing -- their only ask was for a mediator to arrange the exchange and establish a connection to then negotiate the further release of the soldiers. Israel refused to talk or hear about it. So Qatar reached out to Antony Blinken to let him know that Hamas was willing to release all the civilian hostages. Blinken told Qatar he didn't want to hear it because "Israel is still under attack, and there's no one to talk to." Blinken had the opportunity to free every single civilian hostage and de-escalate the situation. Instead he wanted war.

Labor share
BLS this morning, with revised 2Q data: "The labor share, which is the percentage of output that accrues to workers in the form of compensation, was 52.8 percent in the second quarter of 2026, the lowest level in the series, which begins in the first quarter of 1947."

This Labor Day, if you've ever benefited from:   — The weekend — 40-hour work weeks — Workplace safety standards — A minimum wage — Paid time off   thank a union.   Unions don’t just improve working conditions for their members, they help every American worker.   Happy Labor Day!

Pensions are fundamentally a future production problem, not a financial one. Private pensions accumulate financial assets, while State Pensions create rule-based entitlements to future payments. Neither stores the goods and services that pensioners will consume in 35 years’ time. Those financial claims and entitlements will ultimately be exercised against the output being produced then. If future productive capacity is insufficient relative to the purchasing power seeking to command it, the result is competition for scarce real resources and potentially higher prices. The solution is therefore to increase the economy’s future productive capacity through investment today, not simply to reduce future pension payments. Cutting nominal claims today does not create the required additional goods and services tomorrow. Worse, if spending cuts reduce investment, skills, infrastructure or productive capacity today, they will leave both workers and pensioners poorer in real terms tomorrow.

Truth
Both parties have prioritized shareholders over workers, allowed monopoly power to concentrate, gutted antitrust enforcement, cut taxes on the wealthy, while cutting Social Security (the Greenspan Commission). We have an economy that runs on asset-price bubbles and Fed backstops, because stagnant wages for the majority can't provide enuf demand growth to sustain it on its own.

Google ruining the Internet
Here is the day that Google decided it knew how to cook everything👇 In November 2025 Google started consistently showing AIOs for all "how to" recipe queries, ranging from easier to very complex recipes...literally everything! We worked hard to perfect these recipes by testing them countless times and responding to thousands of comments over the past decade. Then Google steals our recipe, photos, videos, and misrepresents our content in mangled AIOs that compete against us in position one. This isn’t “commodity” content @rajanpatel and @rmstein. We along with countless other recipe sites helped train the Google models. We perfected the recipes that Google stole by being human and doing all of the hard work. We purchased the groceries. We hired a chef. We filmed the videos. We maintained the recipes. We built something out of nothing. Google did nothing but steal everything. Look at the traffic loss👇👀 Google simply can’t do this to the open web and expect it to continue to train the AI models without compensation. Google is destroying Google search by doing this. If publishers are out of business Google won’t have anything to train on. We are easily seeing 50-70% drops in clicks for these queries. These how to queries represent only a fraction of the drops we are seeing. This is insane and completely unsustainable!

Google ruining the Internet
This is happening to websites in every corner of the internet. Google AI Overviews may be convenient for the searcher, but this convenience comes at a cost. Sites like HouseFresh and Inspired Taste are powered by real people who spend real money and real time to create valuable content for the web. We won't be able to survive if every Tech Giant keeps training their AI with our work without compensation just to sell convenience to their users. If this continues, the information your AI of choice will offer you in a few years time is bound to be a mix of advertising, spam and old content from the days when websites were still alive.

It's been 10 years since Colin Kaepernick refused to stand for the national anthem. So now's a good time to remember the little-known third verse of the Star-Spangled Banner literally celebrates the murder of slaves fighting for freedom: theintercept.com/2016/08/28/… (thx RS)

All else unchanged, Hy Minsky noted investment booms can accelerate inflation (eq 25, p. 152, Stabilizing an Unstable Economy), esp. if productivity gains are slow to arrive. That's how the US AI capex boom is tracking - not towards Post Scarcity Utopia. Et tu, Gov. Warsh?

They obviously don't care. I mean seriously, honestly, they don't give a damn. If they did, then yes, of course, they would be on this like a junkyard dog, flooding the zone 24/7 on how the Trump death cult is literally poisoning America's food chain. But they don't. As long as
maybe i haven’t been paying close enough attention but i haven’t really seen any dems campaigning on bringing food safety regulations back, feels like a slam dunk

Incredible! Now Trump is siding with big tech, and the billionaires who have been donating to him, to take away public notice:l on data centers: “The Environmental Protection Agency plans to eliminate a federal requirement that states publicize and solicit public input on applications for air pollution permits for a range of industrial facilities, including new data centers and the power plants needed to run them. The move could prevent residents from raising concerns about — or even learning about — data centers before permits are approved and construction starts.” nytimes.com/2026/08/25/clima…

e) Talking about taking "action against China" instead of the possibility of cooperating on issues mutual interest like climate is the hawkish orientation I find disturbing.

But, hey, if you have a corporate tax policy that would prevent deaths of despair, or climate change that would be cool. If you have a link to share, I will read.
