I love dictation. I hate subscriptions. I have tried several different providers and ultimately, I hated them. Apple dictation isn’t that good. I’d love to Superwhisper at first, but during their updates, the interface changed my settings got reset and I was pissed. I was paying a subscription for something and I wanted stability and I got instability. I got really annoyed that these apps are all using the hardware that I purchased and then they’re charging me to use the thing I already own. So I made my own app instead and I’m sharing it. 1. This is free. No sign up, no account creation, no subscription. 2. It’s a macOS-only app. It’s very specifically optimized for the M-series chips (all of them, I use a 32gb M1 Max as my daily driver). 3. It saves every recording and transcription to any folder you want. Aim it at a folder in your iCloud and it’ll sync to everyone of your devices. It supports 25 languages currently but English is still the best. It uses parakeet V3 so if you’re curious, if it uses the language you need, you can look it up. Happy chatting 😎 github.com/AgentC-Consulting…

Anyone running agents run on your laptop knows it get fairly hot. I decided to use the fans Apple seems to have ignored, and I had a little fun with it ✈️ Because a little whimsy always brightens your day.

I noticed something today that my fellow token maxxer’s will understand. I pace my usage out over my window so I can judge results and pace progress. I only used 40% of my plan with @OpenAI and I swear I had a few more days remaining. I had just used a reset on Sept 24th at 5:57AM. Today my subscription renewed and it reset my usage schedule entirely. I had several days worth of usage just wiped out 😒 I have the most amazing team of Opus 5.5 doing around the clock management of Luna v6 on MAX, I was REALLY looking forward to my full week of use from that reset too 😩 I had no idea I would have to dodge account renewal as a potential waste of my reset tokens 👎🏼

Is there a good “light weight” open source browser that’s Chromium based? I use Opera right now and generally love it but… once my agent starts using Chrome, my laptop runs low on memory and disk storage starts shrinking by the GB rapidly. It’s crazy that my browser uses SO MUCH MEMORY. And I’m fairly on top of using the new features for staying organized with 75 tabs open at any given moment 😂 1. Tab groups - minimized when unused 2. Closing windows once done with them or no longer needed 3. Running only 1 youtube video in the background on 1080p instead of 4k But I’m still seeing memory creep up to 16GB frequently like every week 😐 My experience with many applications has been that when I leave my laptop running for a week or more at a time memory always becomes a problem. Even macOS begins losing track of its cash and starts collecting temp files that never get cleaned up. I know the subtle nuances of these things are hard problems to solve, but knowing the kind of performance improvements that I have been able to achieve by setting up multiple models with a good harness means that high-quality software of the future will never have to be restarted to fix memory bloat. Depending on how technical you are, that statement might not make sense. But if you think about it from a bigger picture perspective of what makes something reliable in this case, if you have to restart it because it eventually starts malfunctioning then is it really even that reliable? We have kind of just accepted a steadily decreasing quality of software because it was easier to get updates shipped so we would just use things and wait for it to be discovered and then fix it because research and development is expensive and hard. However, it’s not hard anymore. Frankly, it is astounding, but the AI models can do when instructed and led by someone who has unbounded creativity and curiosity. I think it would be really cool to solve my browser problem by guiding an AI through the idea of optimizing an open source project so that my browser can still surf the web and have a complete experience, but no longer takes many gigabytes of memory. I’m extremely confident that I’ll be able to pull this off. I’ll try to document the journey as I do things and post as progress is made. I don’t actually have an open source project to use as a benchmark yet so I guess if I don’t find one, maybe I’ll just roll my own and see what happens.

Made the mistake of updating the Codex desktop app, and now I cannot find ANYWHERE to reset my usage. I had 4 resets banked so I could really leverage Sol this week and it looks like they rug pulled me. These usage games make for a lousy experience as a customer.

Don’t be a shoveler. It’s easy to dismiss big tech changes at first. The advantages are clear but the disadvantages are also very clear. But it’s not just about right here and right now, it’s also about what’s next. Today, AI is like the introduction of heavy equipment for construction. The advantages were obvious but the initial drawbacks were huge. It took time, but today you wouldn’t even consider starting an excavation business without heavy equipment. The benefits are just too obvious. Several industries are going through this same kind of power law change because of AI and it’s happening at a breakneck pace. For example, I said to someone yesterday that it’s entirely reasonable to assume that 6 months from now the base frontier models will be better software engineers than I ever will be. Saying that hit me like a sack of bricks 🧱 But, staying as just an engineer would make me a shoveler. I don’t want to be a shoveler. I want to be an operator. I want to wield great power with precision and effeciency that’s never been seen before. The future as an operator in software engineering is still developing, slowly but surely like an old polaroid. I’m excited to see how that picture comes out. Moral of the story is: Don’t be a shoveler, be an operator.

Have you heard of vibe coding? 😆 of course you have! But have you heard of "advanced vibe coding"? 🤔 Here's a simple introduction: dev.to/seesethcode/advanced-… Amber doesn't _yet_ 😉 lead in vibing, you'll want to get ahead of the crowd.

This past weekend I experimented with @cursor_ai & their docs feature. I wrote some documentation for a new @CrystalLanguage shard & let the editor index those docs. The sidebar AI was successful in following my prompt instructions & wrote valid code. This is EXCELLENT

What this means: 1. correctly structured docs can enable models to have instant knowledge & capability upgrades 2. troubleshooting and configuration steps can now be a form of the docs, empowering users 3. Getting new devs started is going to be easier than ever!

I just cancelled my Adobe licence after many years as a customer. The new terms give Adobe "worldwide royalty-free licence to reproduce, display, distribute" or do whatever they want with any content I produce using their software. This is beyond insane. No creator in their right mind can accept this . You pay a huge monthly subscription and they want to own your content and your entire business as well. Going to have to learn some new tools.
