Still incredible that the DeepMind documentary has footage of exact moment Demis is told that AlphaFold can “easily” predict all known (1-2B) protein sequences “in a month” and he says to do it. Then, it shows the moment AlphaFold is released to the world.

This is the doom I predicted a few days ago, coming for Photoshop. A clean-room open-source reimplementation. No prizes for guessing that they decompiled Photoshop to source code, processed that to some kind of non-code specification language, then fed the spec to an LLM with an instruction to generate Rust. Adobe just got nuked. And closed source is dead, dead, dead. github.com/storytold/photocr…

If some AI leaders believe their technology has a 10%+ chance of wiping out humanity, why keep building it? “If we don’t, China will” is the familiar answer. AI Safety Researcher Nate Soares argues their shifting justifications look more like wanting to race than being forced to. He points to two contradictions: 1. OpenAI argued that building smarter AI while computing power was still scarce would limit its ability to copy itself then invested in massive data centers. 2. Politicians say we must beat China while supporting sales of advanced AI chips to China. His point: if you think this race could kill everyone, “we can’t stop unless they stop” isn’t enough. You should be fighting for an agreement that stops everyone, including you, until we know how to proceed safely.

There is 0 (zero) evidence of the cost. It could just be 10k and that will mean that the major breakthrough was the approach of Diego Cordoba & Luis Martinez. @sama You have the logs, so why dont show those billions of tokens?

ugh AI is such a bubble, i heard they are selling tokens at a loss, did they know this was only worth $1 million?

OpenAI is right on this one only 5 year olds or white tower dwellers would expect to give data to LLM and LLM not to use it. Despite impressive math credentials some of these folks seem to be unable to calculate the cost of the product (hint it is not 20 usd and not even 200 usd per month) and as they say in business if you don’t pay for product in full you are the product.
Two things to distinguish: Did any human or agent look at user data as part of the Navier Stokes effort? No. Do we use user feedback and de-identified data to improve ChatGPT and Codex in a holistic way? Yes. And so does every LLM company.
