Waterloo Bridge is not a nice-to-have. It is a lifeline for South Bank, Waterloo and SE1: for residents getting to work, for buses, for businesses, and for visitors coming across the river. The reports of water damage and cracks, and a possible shutdown within three years, need a straight answer from both Westminster, which is responsible for the structure, and Lambeth, whose communities would live with the disruption. We cannot be expected to absorb a long closure.
