Gold Coast has been into Schubert since July, when it became clear Ben King was heading to the Hawks. A long play. He had been keen to stay but since Calsher Dear's re-signing, the Hawks had more than opened the door - they had been clear he should do it. The deal will get done.

The Demons' chase of McLachlan dates back to 2024, when they had interest in him for the mid-season draft. Essendon gave it a strong shake and pushed hard with new coach Mark McVeigh and football boss John Longmire front and centre but Melbourne's long-held interest won out.
