To hear Ben Thompson tell it, all entertainment will either be a time buy or linear sports. I’m not sure he’s wrong. – at Livingston, NJ

So many things I’ve learned these past 6 months. Many I wish I had known as a younger man. But that couldn’t have happened without my life experience. that has provided a relief against which to view the contrast with other things. – at South Orange, NJ

A great thread. Though I think time horizon for exit is a key in assessing any company. For a public co I may compare the trading vol of a stock as a % of total shares/options to other co’s. This offers one way to get a sense of how many “buy and hold” vs market driven there are. – at South Orange, NJ
An entire generation of entrepreneurs & tech investors built their entire perspectives on valuation during the second half of a 13-year amazing bull market run. The "unlearning" process could be painful, surprising, & unsettling to many. I anticipate denial. Some thoughts:

Interesting thread. I’d want to see this laid out empirically to really grasp if there is a there there. – at South Orange, NJ
Fine, here’s what I think is going on: White men have long been a minority in US society (currently 29%), but until very recently, they controlled all the ladders of ascent into cultural, political, media, or economic relevance.

What if someone created a university targeted specially to big box and fast food store workers? Perhaps a supplement, possibly a replacement to community college. All programs would include some industry specific courses. The scale and leverage could help build a great program. – at South Orange, NJ

EVERY person who joins a bigco in a “new ventures” role should be eyes wide open that these jobs have a high risk profile. Often it is good to come into these roles with prior functional experience so you can at least look for a landing spot. – at South Orange, NJ
The really tragic thing about CNN+ shutting down after one month is all those people they hired now unsure of their jobs. They trusted the company when its leaders said this was a product it was investing in.

I also think legacy management failed to clarify these risks up front. I lay blame aquarely at the feet of Jason Kilar, Jeff Zucker, Andrew Morse and John Stankey. Pushing fwd w a $300MM annual project without vocal support from new ownership is unconscionable & irresponsible. – at South Orange, NJ

Let’s also be clear this is NOT a “tragedy”. It is corporate assholery, and highly shitty. But let’s not lose perspective, people. – at South Orange, NJ

I don’t think I would offer an ad based tier if I were Netflix. Some ideas: – at South Orange, NJ

To me, advertising is a feeding frenzy. There isn’t opportunity outside of putting price pressure. Traditional players always have the option of killing digital CPM because it’s noncore. – at South Orange, NJ

I think the opportunity for netflix lies in Licensing, new products, and winning in specific product lines. Think like a “whole package” media company, not as an SVOD /AVOD company. BUILD FRANCHISES! – at South Orange, NJ
