Some shower thoughts on AI and Game Dev:
* For #RobloxDev I've stopped using AI to write a lot of code. Instead using it to fix code which reduce our bug fixing times often by 90%+. The speed at which AI detects common mistakes still blows my mind.
* AI writing our codebase has made it hard to expand upon. There's a delicate balance between speed and avoiding tech debt.
* I'm still having AI write from scratch systems that stand independently. (e.g. lighting gradient effects) There is virtually no tech debt created here.
* Until AI can create standalone Roblox games, you still need to learn coding and associated fields (math, physics, design principles) to use AI productively.
* I'm not anti-AI but I do think it is reducing problem solving skills. The people who can leverage AI without losing their own creativity and problem solving ability will be the winners.
* Learning to use AI as a power tool versus just "chatting" with ChatGPT creates a massive competitive advantage. (This applies to really anything in life though) Plain language conversations with AI are not enough. Learn custom prompting, teach AI your coding styles, etc.
* AI is only going to get better and reduce the barrier to entry. This has both positive and negative implications for current/future Roblox developers depending on your opinion. Decide the size of your projects to work on with this in mind. I still think we have at least a few years before AI can create entire games.

Imagine: Two animals run the exact same distance.
One chooses to. One is forced.
The voluntary runner gets healthier—better heart rate, blood pressure, glucose.
The forced runner? Gets sicker.
Andrew Huberman says the same rule destroys or upgrades your stress, your workouts, even your life.
And the craziest proof: People who watched hours of Boston bombing news coverage suffered MORE acute stress than those who were actually there.
Your mind doesn’t know the difference between experiencing and relentlessly consuming.
So… what “have-to” in your life are you ready to reframe as a choice?
This 1:58 clip just rewired my brain.

Elon Musk: “Anyone who wants to make more than they take has my respect”
Elon is asked for his advice for entrepreneurs, to which he responds:
“I’m a big fan of anyone who wants to build. Anyone who wants to make more than they take has my respect. That’s the main thing you should aim for: to make more than you take and be a net contributor to society.”
He compares it to the pursuit of happiness:
“If you want to create something valuable financially, you don’t pursue that. It’s best to pursue providing useful products and services. If you do that, money will come as a natural consequence of that rather than pursuing money directly. You can’t pursue happiness directly. You pursue things that lead to happiness — fulfilling work, study, friends, loved ones.”
Elon continues:
“It sounds very obvious, but generally if somebody is trying to make a company work, they should expect to grind super hard and accept that there’s a meaningful chance of failure. Then just focus on having the output be worth more than the input. Are you a value creator? That’s what really matters: making more than you take.”

Good reminder on the state of AI

My progress always looks the same:
Start → suck → grind for months/years with no noticeable progress → suddenly look up after a long time and it’s 3x better.
Fitness: no change for months. “why isn’t this working!?” then after 6 months of consistent behavior, I see a before/after photo and am unrecognizable. Then the after photo becomes the baseline for next 6 months.
Business: I feel the same for years. “I don’t feel like a better, more mature leader. Am I not reading enough books!?” Then one day I see my work from 3 years ago realize I’ve leveled up completely.
KEEP GOING! That’s the hard part!!

extreme results come from extreme preparation. years of reading hard books shows in your conversations. years of a strict diet shows in your energy. years of consistency shows in your confidence. years of focus shows in your results.

When you work hard for something, people will mock you, question your efforts, and try to bring you down because seeing someone chase their dreams reminds them of the dreams they never dared to pursue. And when you finally achieve success, they’ll call it luck, say you didn’t deserve it, or find excuses to make your victory seem small. They do this not because you’ve done something wrong, but because your success is a mirror to their inaction. It’s easier for them to believe the world is unfair than to accept that they never gave their all. They’ll say, “she got it easy,” or “he must have cheated,” or blame things like gender, background, or chance, anything but the truth. The truth is simple: only you know the sleepless nights, the quiet sacrifices, the self-doubt you fought through, and the pain you turned into purpose. Let them talk. Let them cope. You keep walking. Because your journey was never about proving them wrong, it was always about proving to yourself that you could.

My "enough" number isn't about maximizing income.
It's about maximizing our lives while generating the income to support our ideal lifestyle.
There's a big difference.

I can't imagine spending my life doing things I hate for people who don't care about me.
You've got one life.
Do what you want, when you want, with whom you want, and as little as possible of what you hate.

In a world where AI is everywhere, being authentically human is the ultimate competitive advantage. While companies chase innovation, true humanity becomes the rarest and most valuable asset.
Say it loud: I’m a real human.

Nowadays most devs are only concerned about what the algorithm wants and new user behavior in that regard. We are neglecting the very thing that makes us do this in the first place: making cool stuff.

I feel the same way about my game. I’ve been trying to transition from this algorithmic world to a more passionate world of game development.
We didn’t start making roblox games to obsess about session time and d1 retention. We started because we wanted to make fun games

sometimes i’m overwhelmed with the insatiable desire to learn. to know astronomy and geography and language and architecture; to recognize each constellation, planet, and star; to speak and understand all languages, be able to decipher ancient greek and latin text; to grow my understanding of how the human body works; study the differences and similarities of each religion; recognize the use for each herb and seed and sapling. Â
i want to better myself, not for fame or recognition or power. i just want to understand.

I love programming.
I don’t think you realize how lucky we are to be able to create things out of thin air.
We can sit down and make something without needing costly materials, having extra supplies lying around, or throwing out material if we mess up.
If you’re into woodworking, painting, or hardware, you have to buy materials. And if you make a mistake, you’ll likely have to start over and buy new supplies to continue your project.
No money? Then you have to wait until you can afford more materials.
But if you’re a software engineer, you can just keep creating.
All. The. Time.
Your only upfront cost is a basic laptop that will last for years.
Broke your project? You can debug.
Need hosting? There are free alternatives, or you can even host on an old machine.
Programming is one of the few hobbies that lets you express yourself and create without constantly buying new tools and materials.
This is why I love it.
