Britain abolished this sentence in 2012. Right now, 2,300 people are still serving it. IPP — imprisonment for public protection. Parliament expected fewer than 1,000 would ever receive it. Courts handed down 8,711. No end date. People given two-year tariffs are still inside two decades later. The state calls it public protection. At £52,000 a head, it costs roughly £120m a year to hold them in suspended animation — on some of the highest self-harm rates in the system. April's Court of Appeal ruling cracked the door open for a few hundred of the youngest. June's reforms trimmed licence periods. Still no resentencing — the one fix nearly every independent review has recommended. One known case is where an individual was given a two years IPP and is still serving nearly two decades later Issues like this is one of the reasons founded Inside Out Justice. A sentence can be abolished and still ruin lives every day it isn't unwound.

The honest caveats: regulated enterprises won't send data to Beijing-hosted APIs, and they're right not to. Open weights change that calculus, though — you can run Chinese models on your own tin. And when the market leader starts lobbying for an IAEA-style global forum, ask what the timing tells you.

The last three decades rhyme: hardware, solar, batteries, EVs. China commoditises the layer; the margin moves up the stack.

Reading the news today about Reforms plans on bringing in a Migrant Workers Levy on Employers. I'm not sure how this could work, as it could penalise employers who want to hire british workers, have tried to hire british workers but been unable to so they have then hired migrant workers. Should they be penalised? Back in 2010 @EvanHD did a social experiment for the @BBC to dispel the myths surrounding foreign workers stealing british jobs. He found british employers and took foreign employees out of jobs and put british workers into them. How do you think the experiment turned out? I found the BBC link but the programme expired bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00r3qy… But found it on Youtube: youtube.com/watch?v=bqo-7rtG… Do you think much has changed since 2010? Give it a watch.

Seems @claudeai is having API Limit issues on top of its current Fabel issues: API Error: Server is temporarily limiting requests (not your usage limit) · Rate limited This was after literally 30 seconds today of starting to do something ultra small.

Changing ownership doesn’t fix a broken railway system. It’s what they do next with it that matters.
I promised we would fix our broken railways. Today Southern, Thameslink, Great Northern and Gatwick Express return to public ownership. Run for the public good, not private profit. This Labour government is putting passengers first.

Anthropic built an AI so good at finding software flaws they refused to ship it. So they handed it to Apple, Google, Microsoft, AWS and Cloudflare instead. One month later: — 10,000+ zero-days uncovered — A bug hidden in OpenBSD for 27 years — Working exploit chains the model wrote unprompted — Cloudflare’s bug-find rate up tenfold Anthropic’s own words today: no company, including them, has safeguards strong enough to stop a model like this being misused. We are watching the offence/defence balance of the entire internet shift in real time — and almost no one is paying attention.
Last month we launched Project Glasswing, our collaborative AI cybersecurity initiative. Since then, we and our partners have found more than ten thousand high- or critical-severity vulnerabilities in essential software.

Wonder what's going through the minds of a lot of HR peeps today as this topic has gone viral.
JUST IN: Bolt CEO Ryan Breslow fired the company’s entire HR team because they were “creating problems that didn’t exist.”

If the #UK was to rejoin the #EU, what are the intelligent arguments against it? What would we actually lose that #Brexit apparently provides? Everything I read seems to support a case for the UK to rejoin as the pros outweigh the cons.

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ @claudeai @AnthropicAI really needs to fix these issues. Surely with its latest data centre increase this should be a thing of the past? "API Error: 529 Overloaded. This is a server-side issue, usually temporary — try again in a moment. If it persists, check status.claude.com."
