Mark Regev, an Australian-Israeli former diplomat who worked for Netanyahu, is being charged in a Melbourne court with advocacy for genocide based on comments he made in Australian media. Opening statements got underway last week in Regev’s trial. The criminal proceeding was initiated by Aboriginal activist Robbie Thorp and lawyer Daniel Taylor in what is known as a ‘private prosecution’. The charges stem from comments Regev made during an ABC Radio National interview on October 10 of last year. Regev was asked by the interviewer to comment on Yoav Gallant's order to lay a complete siege on Gaza following Hamas' October 7 attack. The psychopath Regev defended Gallant's decision, arguing that no other country would respond to such an attack from a neighboring territory by supplying it with water and electricity. Speaking in front of the courthouse before the trial began, Thorpe, who is a Krautungalung elder, told a crowd of supporters, "I find it offensive that this country that committed genocide against us is now allowing our country to be used as a base to advocate genocide against Palestinian people." Thorpe’s words apply with equal force to Canada. Both Liberal and Conservative leaders are allowing this country, which committed genocide against Indigenous peoples, to be used as a base to advocate genocide against the Palestinian people. #gaza #genocide
