The N95s we have stashed in the truck for COVID came in handy for another reason yesterday: wildfire smoke that descended over SK. And then I dropped the mercury field blank in the river (but retrieved it!!!). Just another day in the field 🙃

Maja and I collected one of our first samples at McKinnon Creek on the eastern boundary of @RidingNP for year 2 of our partnership with @GovCanHealth PMRA’s national pesticide monitoring pilot program! Such a beautiful site… we didn’t want to leave 😍

I was hanging with Dallard this week sampling the western #PrairieProvincesWaterBoard sites (for the first time since I joined HBWQMS!) up the SK/AB border. The plethora of hoar frost everywhere made these already beautiful sites extra snazzy ❄️

Final wildlife count: at least 4 moose, a great horned owl (!!), some deer, maybe some pronghorn??? It seems the moose were showing off for both the E & W PPWB crews this week!

We met up with our friends from @MBGov to sample the #WinnipegRiver at Pointe du Bois last week! This is 1 of 2 sites we jointly monitor for water quality to assess comparability between our analytical labs & sampling methods. #WeLoveHiVis

Did the run up the east side of #LakeWinnipeg to sample some of the tributaries that flow into the lake off the shield, like the #BloodveinRiver! Not shown: the hole that ruthless rocky road made in my tire… Rice River Road: 1, Emily: 0.

Today our paper about #PFAS destruction (at much milder conditions than previously thought possible) is out in @ScienceMagazine. We also present a detailed, evidence-based degradation mechanism. This paper is my entire PhD and I'm very proud of it. A 🧵: science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…

When there is no reprieve from the relentless Manitoba sun, Ross takes matters into his own hands and put the ActionPackerStackers to the test to create a little shade… too bad it wasn’t his Time to Tilley. We had fun sampling the #NetleyLibau marsh last week!

#WaterSampling tweeps: anyone have experience successfully sampling for trace #mercury using some kind of rope & sampling iron setup for river sampling off a bridge? We’re brainstorming over here and would appreciate any learned experience…good or not 😅

Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba is a woodland escarpment that rises more than 500 m above the surrounding agricultural plains. It’s a perfect Prairie oasis!🌾 Credit and full description of this image: asc-csa.gc.ca/eng/satellites… #SatelliteArt @ParksCanadaMB @ParksCanada

With sustained higher-than-normal flows on the Red River, 2022 has now passed 1997 ("The Flood of the Century") for cumulative flow to this point. We're approaching the equivalent of having filled Winnipeg's famous Pan Am Pool 2 million times - w/ more rain coming today.
