Our public opinion polling shows the appetite for R&D to have a bigger role in supporting communities across the UK.
Some 67% would like to see more R&D carried out in their local area. 📍
Some 70% would support a proposal for a new R&D lab being built on their nearest high street🏢(Oct 23 data)
The public also talk about R&D bringing benefits to the local economy, more well-paid jobs, and new education opportunities🎓(Jul 22 & Feb 23 data)

Welcome’s submission to the UK Spending Review:
📈 Increase R&D intensity - invest £22bn in R&D in 2026/27 and set a longer-term ambition to become the most R&D intensive G7 economy
🏫 Fix the funding environment for UK universities to support their financial sustainability
We agree fully with the conclusions of the @LordsSTCom detailed in this letter.
As we set out in our 2024 Immigration Briefing, the UK needs a competitive immigration policy that attracts international R&D talent in order to meet its ambitions for a research-intensive economy.

sciencecampaign.org.uk/about…
Understanding public opinion is how we will make R&D matter to more people 👥 To support our work through to 2029 CaSE is seeking to commission a public research agency to:
📊Ensure CaSE establishes a robust data series to track public attitudes to R&D and R&D investment.
📝Ensure CaSE can rapidly support policy development processes for CaSE, our members and the wider R&D sector through ad-hoc quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods research.
The Request for Proposals closes at 09:00 on Tuesday 21 January.
