The root cause of our divides is not a lack of information. It’s a lack of trust. Faith in media, government, and the law has plummeted. People dismiss the message when they doubt the source. A key to healing America is increasing the neutrality and integrity of institutions.

I often think about this: younger people in the US and other wealthy nations are far more likely to have a zero-sum mindset—the idea that someone’s gain means a loss for others—compared to older generations. From our paper on zero-sum thinking (full 🧵 xitter.cf/s_stantcheva/status/17…)
Zero-sum thinking is a key mindset that shapes how we view the world. Excited to share a new paper on the roots and consequences of Zero-sum thinking with @sahilchinoy, @DrNathanNunn @SMGSequeira. A summary thread🧵1/23 scholar.harvard.edu/files/st…

Wie gut sind wir eigentlich darauf vorbereitet, falls Elon Musk für die AfD Wahlkampf machen sollte? Nach dem Erfolg von Trump sollte man Musks Maschinerie besser nicht unterschätzen.

Confused about what's going on in German politics right now? 😕 Relationship status: It's complicated — and, to top it all off, some of the key players involved had to pose for this awkward photo...

We’re going to hear lots of stories about which people, policies and rhetoric are to blame for the Democrats’ defeat. Some of those stories may even be true! But an underrated factor is that 2024 was an absolutely horrendous year for incumbents around the world 👇

Fantastic thread. Governments of all ideological persuasions suffered losses amid post-COVID inflation. This is why election outcomes aren't ideological mandates. Biden didn't win because voters wanted liberalism. Trump didn't win because voters wants conservatism.
Decided to go through this systematically. Incumbent government performance in wealthy democracies since March 2022, when Ukraine invasion really spiked things upwards: 🧵
