a quick look at THE APPRENTICE, a different kind of horror movie boxd.it/7z5Jnv

Review of ‘The Apprentice’ (2024)

I don't think people are likely to truly appreciate this film until the political furor surrounding its main subject settles down - but it is well-made and much more effective than it's getting…

Review of ‘Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence’ (1992)

The third film in this series is unfortunately an erratically paced mess due to heavy-handed producer interference that led to Cohen walking during pre-production and Lustig dropping out after…

October Horrorthon, Day 28 - MANIAC COP 2 boxd.it/4yHqbt

Review of ‘Maniac Cop 2’ (1990)

After turning heads with the first film in this series, Lustig and Cohen make the rare sequel that tops the original here. Cohen's script builds out the storyline from the first film in unexpected…

October Horrorthon, Day 27 - MANIAC COP boxd.it/4yHp4r

Review of ‘Maniac Cop’ (1988)

Lustig and Cohen made a powerhouse team here, seamlessly blending their skills into a top-shelf indie genre flick that represents the best either filmmaker did during the 2nd half of the '80s.…

October Horrorthon, Day 23 - MARTIN  boxd.it/44jBbr

Review of ‘Martin’ (1977)

The fascinating flipside to Romero's splashier horror hits, an elegant chamber piece that is much more a gritty indie drama than a horror film. It's fascinating in how it uses its main character to…

Review of ‘Dead Heat’ (1988)

Time has been surprisingly kind to this oddball horror/action hybrid. It's undeniably redolent of its times but manages to synthesize the most appealing aspects of both genres that diehard fans…

Review of ‘Poltergeist’ (1982)

Don't get caught up in the "Is it a Spielberg flick or a Hooper flick?" debate with this one: instead, groove on the stealthy overlap of sensibilities to create a unique horror experience. The…
