I'm amazed at how little reaction there seems to be in the US to Trump making a deal with Putin to help his war against Ukraine in exchange for a few days of diesel.
In a moral nation millions would be in the streets demanding his resignation. In the US, it's barely a talking point even among his political opponents.

Navi Pillay, a great Nobel winner for today. A human rights defender. And a South African woman of colour.
In 2014, I asked how her experience struggling against apartheid informed her work. She said she learned to “be persistent & be totally positive that you will win one day.”

In awarding this year’s #NobelPeacePrize, the Norwegian Nobel Committee wants to remind the world that the rule of law – national and international – underpins the system we have set up to ensure peace and resolve conflicts non-violently. Peace requires justice.
History has shown that a world operating without the rule of law is unjust, unwise and inhumane. The judges – those who guard the thin red line between order and chaos – are therefore highly deserving of our praise. But today, as these same judges are sanctioned, and their institutions are attacked, we need people of courage, vision and determination – qualities that 2026 peace laureate Navi Pillay demonstrates in her work on the bench.

Imagine saying this about Navi Pillay, who represented Robben Island prisoners (incl. Mandela) during the darkest days of apartheid, who delivered justice for genocide victims in Rwanda, who is still pursuing the cause of justice while mediocrities like Joel here is posting bile.

Prior to 2016 would a cabinet secretary ever have dreamed of writing to a senator in these personal and insulting terms? Part of an extraordinary coarsening of political discourse. For what it’s worth, Warren’s original letter is probing but not aggressive or impolite.
Exclusive: FOX Business obtained the response from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to the latest request for information from Senator Elizabeth Warren.
The Senator has sent more than 100 letters to Treasury asking for information in the past 21 months. The Secretary snarky at times in the response saying, "Rather than take my suggestion of studying introductory economics, you have continued your letter-writing crusade and participation in tabloid fodder about the Treasury Department." Secretary Bessent also added a hand-written note at the bottom of the letter. (Picture attached)
Senator Warren sent a letter dated October 10th asking for more information about what the Trump Administration is doing to lower borrowing costs for average Americans. In the letter the Senator accuses the Treasury Secretary of increasing costs saying, "The surge in Treasury yields is self-inflicted and follows the Fed's decision to raise the federal funds rate by a quarter of a percentage point, driven by concerns about inflation." The Treasury Secretary refuted that characterization in his letter, adding, "It is difficult to treat your concern as sincere." Adding, "As the federal funds rate climbed from near zero to its highest level in 22 years, with inflation hitting a 40-year high, you were a cheerleader for the Biden Administration's reckless spending."
The Secretary finishes the letter offering "a Foreign Exchange for Dummies tutorial still, and if you receive a passing grade to the Yale metric, not the Harvard curve, I would be happy to also include a Fixed Income for Dummies."

"What happened to Gaza and in Gaza to Palestinians and Israelis supersedes every legal, moral and humane standard. There are so many people complicit in what happened there and continues to happen."
Striking words from the ICRC President.
Today on The Interview: Her Urgent Warning.
The world is at war. There are 130 active conflicts, more than at any time since WW2.
Add to that that leaders who are increasingly extreme: the US DOD scheduling a public execution, the degradation of language around war with leaders calling for total annihilation, civilian casualties seemingly the point and not a byproduct of wars, democracies weakened and insurgencies strengthened.
The head of the ICRC (not to be confused with the American Red Cross) who is the guardian of the Geneva Conventions rarely gives interviews. She felt compelled to give this one. Listen to our chilling conversation. 👇

Congratulations to Navanethem “Navi” Pillay on receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. This recognition is a well-deserved honour at a time when international law and human rights face increasing pressure.

Even as someone who nominally supports capital punishment, this is disgusting and abhorrent.
Not even China televises executions. This will place the United States in the company of North Korea, Iran, and ISIS.

This take is so bad that it begs for a primary challenge.
McGurk was elbows-deep into both W. Bush’s Iraq war and Biden’s enablement of mass atrocities in Gaza. He doesn’t speak 1 MidEast language, and couldn’t get confirmed as an ambassador to the region bc of ethical breaches.
. @brett_mcgurk is one of our nation’s great experts on the Middle East and has spent decades working at the highest levels of diplomacy through some of the region’s most consequential moments.
I’m really looking forward to reading Brink and learning from his firsthand account of the extraordinary efforts to free the hostages, and confront the extraordinary challenges of the region.

It’s honestly so sick, you know. My cousins didn’t die in the Douma attack, they died in Ghouta (2013), but when I returned to Syria many of us who had family die in (or even survived) the chemical attacks came together for the first time. There was 1 thing we all had in common:
Whether young or old, rich or poor, religious or irreligious: we were all called liars from the very moment the chemical attacks happened, — right up to this very day. Fortunately, none of us have made careers out of atrocity denial, conspiracy theories or cheap propaganda. Blumenthal & Maté are people who’ve contributed nothing to the world & will be forgotten.

We all saw the Google Earth footage of Gaza flattened. Netanyahu told Fox News that this happened because Hamas booby-trapped every building. I spent weeks checking that claim against what Israelis said in Hebrew, to each other. There is no doubt that Israel flattened every building to make sure Gazans had nowhere to return to. Here is the proof.

One reason Israel wanted UNRWA out of Gaza is to get rid of witnesses to genocide: "With 13,000 staff in Gaza, we were extremely well placed to describe the daily life and suffering of Gazans....The foreign press is still barred from entering Gaza." trib.al/olJtfRS

When people speak of the political takeover of a country by Islamism, they imagine bearded sheikhs in robes.
In reality, political Islam often looks exactly like this: Oxford English, fashionable clothes and progressive rhetoric.
That is true of the Islamist @NYCMayor Mamdani and it is equally true of the Islamist @ShabanaMahmood.
I sincerely hope, for the sake of the British people, that the lunatic BDS activists who have taken over their country do not drag Britain into an abyss from which there is no way back.
