The Western green transition is now almost entirely reliant on hardware manufactured by the same industrial giant it hoped to displace. China currently manufactures over 80% of the world’s solar panels, 75% to 80% of all EV batteries, 60% to 70% of core wind turbine components, and over 53% of global crude steel. According to the International Energy Agency, China controls over 80% of the manufacturing share across every key solar PV stage, surging past 95% for specific sub-components like solar wafers. In battery tech, it commands up to 85% of global capacity for specialised sub-components, including anodes and refined electrolytes. For wind power, its massive manufacturing base translates to nearly four-fifths of all new global turbine installations. Data from the World Steel Association confirms China produces more than half of the world's crude steel, hovering just over 1 billion metric tons annually. This staggering modern-day expansion represents the largest, quietest transfer of industrial power in human history. Today, China’s total manufacturing output is larger than that of the next 15 countries combined - exceeding the US, EU and Japan put together. To power this industrial machine, China continues to commission new state-of-the-art coal plants at a rate of 50 to 80 GW a year. It now operates over 1,200 coal plants totaling roughly 1,270 GW - more than half the world’s total capacity - backed by a domestic coal mining fleet four times larger than second-place India. As a result, China’s share of global manufacturing has surged from 6% to 30% since 2000. Over the same period, America’s share plunged from 25% to around 12%, while Europe’s collapsed from 25% to 14%. China uses abundant, reliable coal power, refuses to shackle its industrial base to unilateral net-zero mandates, and has leadership that treats heavy industry and manufacturing as fundamental national security assets. In geopolitical terms, this should be a glaring warning across the West.

Really?! "These giant installations are infamous for high bird mortality rates due to collisions with rotating blades."
At least they admit wind turbines kill birds... Scientists dressed a wind turbine like a poison frog in red, yellow, and black, and birds treated the spinning warning colors like a giant “keep out” sign—an experiment that could help save millions of lives share.google/P0LL87OBUUIq7ua…

Windturbines verliezen jaarlijks tot 14 kilo bladmateriaal per stuk. Dat zijn microdeeltjes met PFAS, forever chemicals die nooit afbreken. Groene energie. Giftige erfenis?

Almost all the reinforced concrete foundations of wind turbines ever built — weighing up to a thousand tonnes each — could be left in the ground. The concrete may be mostly inert, but over the decades, these blocks can disrupt deep-soil hydrology and remain as permanent industrial junk below the surface of rural landscapes. The concrete base of a typical early 2-3 MW wind turbine weighs 400 to 800 tonnes. But the foundations of the even bigger, more recent turbines (5 MW+) can exceed 1,000 tonnes. The number reaching the end of their working lives could soon surpass the tens of thousands. As they degrade, they also risk leaking gearbox fluids, hydraulic liquids, and synthetic lubricants into the soil. In many jurisdictions, decommissioning regulations only require the operator to clear the foundation to a depth of 1 meter below the surface. While contracts state operators are responsible, the financial reality is complex. Bank guarantees or bonds set aside for removal (around $100,000 per turbine) are woefully inadequate. Real-world estimates for total removal and site restoration can exceed $200,000 to $400,000 per unit. If the cost of total removal vastly exceeds the bond, there is a strong incentive for shell companies to declare bankruptcy — leaving landowners to foot the bill. We are already seeing this play out at Victoria's Codrington wind farm. Operators announced plans to remove only the top 1.5-meter pedestal, leaving the bulk of the project's 20,000 tonnes of subterranean foundations permanently buried. This triggered an intense backlash from local communities and MPs who argue it violates the original promise to restore the land. No one wants to deal with these massive concrete and steel monoliths once the turbines are decommissioned.

In 2016, the Netherlands Meteorological Institute adjusted temperatures at De Bilt, the country's main climate station. Daily maximums from 1901 to 1950 were lowered by up to 1.9C, which removed 16 of 23 heatwaves from the record. The altered data were then used to claim modern heatwaves were unprecedented. Four researchers challenged the changes, but the institute dismissed the criticism, so the analysis went to peer review. In 2021, it was published, conclusively demonstrating the institute's method systematically erased historical heat extremes. Today, the Meteorological Institute has quietly changed its approach, and as a result, seven erased heatwaves have been restored, including the extreme summer of 1947. Here again, we have a government agency caught rewriting climate history. The Netherlands Meteorological Institute erased heatwaves of the past, ignored critics, and reinstated the truth only when the evidence became impossible to ignore. Policies were built on that manipulated record. Dutch farmers lost livelihoods. Industry and the wider economy paid the price. But accountability is coming.

Offshore wind was supposed to LOWER NJ electric bills. The numbers say the opposite. An independent 2024 analysis estimates Atlantic Shores South alone would increase the average NJ residential electric bill 13%—about $224 more per year. How is that “affordable energy”? tinyurl.com/4tnmaba8
