Apple's new external link rules only apply to apps "on the United States storefront", which still restricts developers--even us in the US--from communicating to the oft-international consumers of our globally-available apps. I hope @TimSweeneyEpic brings this back to court, ASAP.
Replying to @arielmichaeli
By limiting these changes to US storefront only, devs have complexity of supporting different systems/implementations for different storefronts - so once again Apple ends up with a significant disincentive to take advantage of the rulings against them.

Just because the App Store might be operated by a patchwork of foreign subsidiaries, that's still covered by "any person in active concert or participation with them". The reality is that publishing your app via Apple uses a single portal, a single agreement, and a single review.

Apple is, once again, attempting to defy the court, hoping that the framework they have used to dodge and limit the scope of consequences placed upon them by foreign governments in overseas markets will work against their home jurisdiction... we should not let them off this easy.

Ooof, the judge basically confirms that Apple could’ve probably gotten away with a more compliant implementation of the injunction with a more reasonable commission, but choosing to flout the injunction forced her hand.

As things continue to heat up on the AI safety front this month, I keep thinking of the already-long talk I gave just a few weeks ago at @CalHacks on "the many security concerns and ethical considerations of AGI" and lament just how much there is to cover. youtube.com/watch?v=c_fICfyY…

I had a surreal experience yesterday with the earthquake that hit SoCal (yes: during the tropical storm); I was listening to @krisangelis live streaming (from a winery up North) and it was while she was singing her song Earthquake that we had one for real! youtu.be/8TjZwkiFVKAx

(If anyone else wants to watch @krisangelis perform, she live streams--mostly on Facebook, but sometimes on Instagram--while doing many of her incidental music gigs, quite often at wineries in NorCal. I listen to most of them; we went to college together.) facebook.com/krisangelismusi…

Because I'm a bit "eccentric", every single one of my tweets--well, with a few mistakes ;P--was exactly the maximum length allowed by Twitter (which isn't always 280/140 characters, due to hyperlinks)... I see Threads supports 500?! I might stick with 280, to allow cross-posting.
Replying to @WiseUp2RiseUp
Out of curiosity, what would you actually want me to tweet about? I recently (finally) got verified, I think the 240-character update from a few years ago makes it more fun, I actually kind of like the app now, and people shout "eta wen" at me less, so I am trying to use it more.

On iOS 15.3-ish, Apple switched from using a 10-day forecast from @weatherchannel to an in-house solution they purchased with Dark Sky; I don't know what statistics they are using, but I'd think the prior on it suddenly being 103 in Santa Barbara next week should be quite low ;P.

(That screenshot was from last night; as of this morning, iOS 16 Apple Weather is forecasting a more reasonable high of 88 for that day, but the older app from iOS 12/14/etc.--which uses @weatherchannel's meteorological prediction--is forecasting a much more moderate high of 81.)

FWIW, if it really hit 103, it would be one of our hottest days ever recorded! extremeweatherwatch.com/citi… (I was alerted to this gem by @imallabboudit, who'd posted a screenshot of a forecast for Isla Vista to Instagram, reacting "What is this weather 😭 that ends with 98 in IV?!".)

I don't know if anyone is still tracking the great 2023 @discord username Musical Chair Party; but, if you don't get your preferred username, and feel there is any chance you will negotiate/talk with the user that did, I'll recommend not setting an alternative temporary username.

The typical username model creates an awkward external market for names and yet another namespace for typo-squatting, with serious identity management issues for brands and celebrities as the social graph can't be relied on to help and there is often money to be made on scams. :/

My hill: services should simply not have bespoke chosen/unique usernames. The brands/personalities that really want usernames should be able to link a DNS hostname to their account, and everyone should be able to create "invite links" that are scoped by time and acceptable users.
