This view of Striding Edge shows how N facing slopes hold more snow than S facing. Striding's exit is guarded by a bank of steep, deep, unavoidable snow which was hard and icy. Those doing it without crampons & ice axes failed to ask the question "what happens if I slip"? Jon

A day for taking summit photographs! With a windchill of minus 12 & lots of ice underfoot, it was not a day for shorts & trainers. There were also people out without rucksacks. Extra layers are not only for emergencies - they also allow you to linger on the summit & enjoy it! Jon
