The outcome of this one case alone will be enough for people to decide how fair, impartial, constitutionally committed, judicious & brave the higher judiciary is under the current political climate.
Is bail really the general rule or is it applicable only for selected few?
Former JNU scholar Umar Khalid has moved the Supreme Court seeking bail in the 2020 Delhi riots larger conspiracy case after the Delhi High Court denied him bail recently. He has submitted that the Supreme Court's one-year embargo imposed on the grant of bail was to expire soon.

We found an error on the Delhi Police website. It has now been fixed. But there's still a question Delhi Police must answer.
Yesterday, SFLC.in highlighted that the email address used to request takedown of SFLC.in's X account and posts does not exist and is incorrectly listed on the Delhi Police's website.
Following our letter, @DelhiPolice has now corrected the email address from 'splcp-crime-dl@delhipolice.gov.in` to 'splcp.crime-dl@delhipolice.gov.in', with a full stop replacing the hyphen after 'splcp'.
We now urge @DelhiPolice and @hgsdhaliwalips to also clarify whether the takedown notices were actually issued and authorised by them.
To verify the authenticity of the takedown orders we received yesterday, issued against SFLC.in's X handle and posts, we emailed @DelhiPolice at the email ID mentioned in the orders. However, our email bounced back with a message stating that the user does not exist.
Interestingly, the same email address is also listed on the Delhi Police website. We had verified the same.
This raises questions about the authenticity of the takedown orders. @DelhiPolice, @hgsdhaliwalips could you please confirm if these orders were issued by you?

NOTE: With due respect, I think you get this horribly wrong, @priyankac19, as do many others. Show me how many (if any) mainstream Indian Muslim politicians have been elected in the last decade from Hindu-majority constituencies. And yes, the reverse is also true, though there are far too few examples of that either.
That is precisely the point: faith, rather than the real issues that Abu El-Sayed has so powerfully raised, has increasingly become central to electoral politics in India. Not to forget, we have a Parliament with not a single Muslim MP from the ruling party and no Muslim cabinet minister.
That is why we need an El-Sayed moment today: a reminder that India’s diversity in society must find expression in its politics too.
And please don’t take us back to an era of nominated Presidents and Vice-Presidents. I am talking about a popular electoral mandate, won in Michigan through a cross-community, cross-class coalition.
Perhaps it is time we looked in the mirror and acknowledged this reality. Hope you agree.
Regards, always.
“India awaits its Abu El-Sayed moment” like seriously?
Here’s India’s several moments:
And this is Presidents And VPs, the list for Ministers and MPs would be longer. So sit down please, appreciate our nation’s syncretic culture rather than seeking western model validation at all times:
Started with Zakir Husain: Served as the VP of India and later became the first Muslim President of India .
Continued with Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed who served as the 5th President of India .
Continued further with A.P.J. Abdul Kalam served as the 11th President of India
Then with Mohammad Hamid Ansari who served a record two consecutive terms as the VP
Also Mohammad Hidayatullah who as the Vice President of India and previously as the Chief Justice of India, also acting as President of India during brief vacancies
“…….Aadhaar card, ab Aadhaar card banane wali jo sansthayen hain, woh har gali mein uplabdh hain. Aap jiska kahiye, abhi 5 minute mein Aadhaar card banakar taiyyar kar denge…”
If a minister is saying this openly what is the GOI & Home ministry doing to stop this? Shameful.

Ever since the 'Gyanesh must resign' protests picked up steam and 30,000 armed security personnel were called into the national capital to quell protests and physically hold down protesters, the entire month of October has not just been Chief Election Commissioner-free but also free of the other two ECs.
Has someone decided what outside appearances by any of the three—and the questions such appearances would prompt—might be injurious to the health of the Modi government ?

The US midterm elections have many lessons for India.
Trump like Modi was also stoking hatred against Muslims & using the immigrant bogey. That has been roundly rejected by US voters.
Trump like Modi was welded to Netanyahu. Both Trump & Netanyahu have been rejected by the people.
Trump like Modi was relying on lies & propaganda. That has been defeated too.
Things are coming to a full circle now. It is Modi’s turn now!

Remember the “BUY 2, GET 5” voter ID offer in Mahadevpura, Karnataka?
On 1 Nov, we reported that Santosh Kumar Bhartia had applied twice but ended up with five different voter IDs. The very next day, 2 Nov, Form 7 objections were filed seeking deletion of four of the five entries.
The record lists Santosh Kumar Bhartia himself as the objector. @ceo_karnataka, did he personally file these objections, or did the ERO, AERO or BLO initiate them? If officials initiated them, why does the record name him as the objector?
Will you acknowledge in a tweet that the steps to correct these duplicate entries came after we flagged them, and clarify whether our report prompted the action?

Gems of Karnataka SIR!
BUY 2, GET 5 OFFER VOTER IDs!
Santosh Kumar’s name was missing from the draft roll in Mahadevapura, Bengaluru. He submitted Form 6 twice to enrol as a voter. But our @ceo_karnataka was so generous that they ended up giving him FIVE different voter IDs. That is, One person applied twice. The EC issued him five voter IDs.
How are duplicate applications slipping through and resulting in multiple voter IDs in final roll? I suspect a closer look across Karnataka could uncover thousands of similar cases.

SIR removes bogus voters - @Tejasvi_Surya
Jyothi from Bangalore South who received 5 voter ids after final roll must be Rolling on the floor laughing.
SIR removes bogus voters.
A Congress minister in Karnataka initially praised the SIR, but later changed his stance under pressure from within his party.
In Kerala, a Congress leader also acknowledged that the SIR had removed nearly one crore bogus voters.
SIR is praised in Kerala but questioned in Maharashtra. Is Congress's position on electoral reforms determined by whether it wins or loses?
The country deserves a responsible Opposition.
