We warned about the possibility of entryism in this election. It's happened, and is becoming more obvious by the day. 🧵

Now that NFTs are clearly utterly worthless , as so many people pointed out from the beginning, it would be nice to see some reflection and even contrition from outlets that fell for the hype. Hopefully noone lost money they couldn't afford to lose. dappgambl.com/nfts/dead-nfts…
Addendum: this is one of the most clearcut examples of how merely being famous or rich induces credulity from people who otherwise would know better. But this happens All The Time.

Creating groups masquerading as grassroots to obscure their political or ideological affiliations is a strategy used to manipulate people and the media to spread their messages. It's a tactic Inwood has employed before, as as @keith_ng reported in 2010 drugfoundation.org.nz/matter…
A pro-whaling and tobacco lobbyist is working with NZ First to bring in the “Freedom” vote. Glenn Inwood, AKA Resistance Kiwi, has also been creating astroturfing groups to influence NZ elections. We'll have things to add soon. thepress.co.nz/a/politics/35…

FACT Aotearoa is concerned that groups associated with conspiracy theory beliefs are strategically infiltrating NZ’s mainstream political parties. “Entryism” is a strategy for small groups to achieve their aims by taking over larger groups from the inside.

Honestly I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often with major news sites. I know journalists are more aware of basic hygiene now than a few years back, but it's surely not hard to catch a person unawares on a bad day.

The connecting thread between Titan incident and climate change is very rich people who won't be told, ignoring the warnings, getting cocky because the bad thing hasn't happened yet, because they are having fun and don't want to stop for a bunch of pencil-necked haters.
This whole "taking assets offshore" thing... I'm not a fancy city accountant or anything, but isn't it the case that moving NZD to another currency means there is a buyer of NZD? That if you sell your property portfolio, or business, that someone buys it?
There are approx 1.3 million owner-occupied dwellings in NZ.
There are about 93,706 landlords who lodged just one bond.
So "ordinary mum and dad landlords" is a bit of a funny one. Seems to me if you own another house, you aren't that ordinary. Let alone more.
It's only a bit more than half of adults who even own or part own or own via a trust at all, so while a couple who owns another house might be the most ordinary kind of landlord, it is not common to be a landlord.
On one hand, we shouldn't treat claims of concern over safety of bilingual road signs a being in good faith. That's transparently bullshit.
On the other, here an academic cites ChatGPT as a valid information source. Also bullshit (of a different order).
