From time to time, human beings revisit the social contract, explicitly or unconsciously. We are in a major moment of revision now.

Reading "We have never been woke" by Musa Al-Gharbi, and pleasantly surprised to discover he references in the book the Dictatorship of a Small Minority, an idea he attributes to @nntaleb.

It would never have occurred to me that X would become @elonmusk's most important investment.

"... Some things we know, and know that we know. Other things we do not know, and know that we do not know. But perhaps the largest class involves those things we do not know, and do not realise that we do not know." @nassirghaemi I found this article I saved a while back while cleaning up my google drive. Quite possibly the most exciting opening paragraph for an article in psychiatry.

Most communication reveals what is important and conceals what is more important.
If you say things simply, there is a danger other people might understand what you’re talking about

Five years ago today, my wife and I were on the late afternoon Bateaux Mouches cruise in Paris when we saw this fire. Some of the folks on the tour were at the #NotreDamedeParis just a few hours prior. Quite surreal and not what you would want to take from Paris. @Notredameparis

I wrote this after reading about a mother who killed her young children, and then herself, less than 24 hours after talking with a mental health professional who'd asked her if she had thoughts of harming herself. She'd said no. speakingofsuicide.com/2014/0…

The perils of generative AI. I asked both Bard and Bing AI, which French philosopher said, "The man on the street is Cartesian." The responses took me down a rabbit hole. Bard initially answered the quote is from Miche Foucault's "The order of things" (1966)

This was quite astounding to me. I then went back and asked Bard if Emil Boutroux, Merleau-Ponty or any other French philosopher ever said, "The man on the street is Cartesian." Bard responded it could not find any evidence any French philosopher said that.

Bing AI, at least, stuck with Maurice Merleau-Ponty. For Bard, so much ink was spilled, in a manner of speaking, but not much was said. The level of detail in the answers is scary. I'm less sure, now, of what the real answer is, than when I started.
