I heard that eclipses get much darker than our eyes can see because they have time to adjust. This is what a total eclipse looks like if our eyes don't have time to adjust. One picture every 1-2 minutes for two hours. The house lights turn on only during totality. @spacedontwait

I received a cancer diagnosis in 2017 and I’ve wanted to write about navigating cancer alongside doing the work that I love. But it’s really hard to put the highs and lows into words. This short piece is a chip of that story. Thanks to all the people involved in this project ❤️
Our #CivicScience highlight this week is from @sdosemagen. Shannon shares her drive to normalize tools of science for use by everyone. Reflecting on her cancer diagnosis, she asks how the power of science can be put to use by all. Read the whole story at: civicsciencestories.org/

This is one of 4 audio entries within the Civic Science Stories. It's worth a listen. In the words of poet Mary Oliver, “I tell you this to break your heart, by which I mean only that it break open and never close again to the rest of the world.”
Our third highlight is Gregory Carbonetti, a previous #CivicScience fellow who shares (via 🔊) his story --> Patient-Derived Xenografts: how might patients and medical scientists work together? Read the whole story at: civicsciencestories.org/

Learning journeys are very humbling. I'm always tempted to invest more in looking smart than in doing smart things. Some of the dumbest things I've done in my life have been while trying too hard not to look dumb. My newest conviction: I'd rather *look* dumb than *be* dumb.

For the cynical voices inside us that say, "Well, you could look dumb *and* be dumb," it's true that you have to believe you can learn in order to do hard things.
👏🏽 I love things I've seen from @math3ma
