While over 30 Adivasi children waste away and die in Balaghat’s remote tribal villages from malnutrition, contaminated water, measles, malaria and typhoid, Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav remain fully occupied with Diya Bati celebrations and lamp-lighting spectacles.
In the forests of Balaghat, Baiga and Gond children are dying one after another.
The state machinery woke up late, vaccination coverage was abysmal, take-home rations had stopped, clean water was a luxury, and basic healthcare was virtually absent.
Yet the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister have time, energy and resources for grand Diya lighting events and festive photo-ops.
Children are perishing from preventable diseases and hunger. The leadership is busy with lamps, rituals and celebrations. That is the priority on display.
