The training you can tolerate is not as important as the training you can dominate. The more I focus on sessions that create improvement, the better things go. The more I try and tally up volume, the more it becomes a distraction. Milage is not the goal. Performance is.

Real ones do not respect weak strength coaches and fat nutritionists. Without properly being in the trenches you can't fully speak to the nature of warfare.

One of the more important abilities possessed by elite athletes is the refusal to be discouraged. Many ups & downs are guaranteed. It’s a skill to persevere regardless.

Your responsibility is you, your goals, and your choices. What you decide to do when it's easy to make poor choices will determine your momentum, and your momentum will determine everything else.

When an athlete’s strategy is based around the mere notion that they “want to”, there’s a really good chance that they have not fully considered the costs in relation to the benefits. Wanting to do a thing is not the same as fully contemplating what’s required to do that thing.

You cannot want the outcome without also wanting to fully engage in the process. If you’ve not considered the process required before starting then you’re likely already fucked.

The single most important aspect of any training program is the belief that it works. “Works” = effective, and in alignment with your life and ambitions.

Perhaps a lot of negative body image is people being realistically unhappy with how they feel and what they see in the mirror. A fat dog needs to eat less and move more, but people should be ‘body positive’? The best form of self-love is self-discipline, not self-deception.

It’s a good day at work when a client lets me know they need to buy a new wardrobe. It’s never the goal, but it’s always indicative of change. If nothing changes nothing changes.

Elite sport doesn’t prepare you well for life after elite sport. What happens when exercise has to be wedged in around work & family, instead of the other way round? What happens when the support disappears? Elite athleticism does not equal elite knowledge or decision-making.

The tools out there that track various aspects of health can be useful as a reference point but are completely useless if that’s all they do. What good is tracking sleep & recovery without a willingness to take the necessary steps to actually improve sleep & recovery?

Motivation is easy when you have sufficiently convincing reasons to do the stuff you otherwise wouldn’t. If you’re not ‘motivated’ you either don’t have good enough reasons or you aren’t paying attention.

You wouldn’t give a shit about your lack of motivation if you don’t care about the thing you were unmotivated about. So, given that you care, what are your reasons for caring?

Are your paying attention to these reasons or are you sticking your fingers in your ears, saying “la la la la la” & hoping it all sorts itself out, knowing all the while it won’t?

If you find yourself awake at night try orient your thoughts more towards future opportunities rather than threats. At 3am and otherwise, it better serves you to assume that things will turn out well & if they don’t, that you have the capability to deal with it then.

It’s logical to commit a portion of your earnings to a retirement fund. But, if you’re around to use your savings you can be certain that your strength, stability & mobility will be at least as important. Planning for the future ought to involve fitness as much as finances.
