A crown is supposed to be a symbol of power.
But what if it is actually a debt?
That question stayed with me while reading Bleeding Crown: Protector of Sivi by Rajesh Mehta.
The book left me with questions rather than answers.
When does honour become stubbornness?
When does keeping a promise become irresponsible?
When does vengeance stop being justice?
And if we inherit someone else's hatred, are we obliged to carry it forward?
We often think we know a place because we know its address.
We know its roads, buildings, cafés, shortcuts and familiar corners.
But knowing a place is not the same as knowing its memory.
That distinction stayed with me while reading Shanta Gokhale’s Shivaji Park – Dadar 28.
Memory, however, isn't innocent either.
Nostalgia remembers what we loved and can conveniently forget what we endured.
That is why I appreciated Gokhale's approach.
She doesn't pretend to be an invisible historian.
She is a participant.
