To the right is a blue box with the BGS logo and the words 'Could this be your new office? The British Geological Survey is recruiting Survey Geologists and Geoscientists at various grads to help deliver our new strategy.

ALT The project focuses on surge waves, which occur frequently in debris flows, and are extremely hazardous because they increase the depth, speed and competence of the flow. The postdoc on this project will develop models of multiphase debris flows that predict the formation, growth and composition of debris flow surge waves. They will inform this modelling using state-of-the-art debris-flow observations obtained by project partners WSL at the Illgraben in Switzerland, and laboratory analogue experiments in Manchester. This exciting project lies at the intersection of mathematics, physics and earth science. The successful candidate will have a PhD in one of these (or related) disciplines. Prior experience of depth-integrated modelling, granular physics and/or debris flows are desirable but not essential.
