20 years ago, I filmed my Grandfather talking about D-Day and what followed; including fighting in the Battle for Caen and being discovered to be Jewish by a German officer in a POW camp. Unbelievable stories and what an accent. vimeo.com/340654703 #DDay75thAnniversary

Finally watched the Ronnie O'Sullivan documentary. Heavy stuff. What a beautiful mind, what a tortured soul. Great film.

Think I just watched the greatest sporting documentary ever (the fact he smokes fags was just the icing on the cake :) There are so many parallels with art... he is an artist, The Edge of Everything... @ronnieo147 – at Neston, England

That Ronnie o’Sullivan documentary is marvellous. I suggest putting it on Christmas Day before someone suggests The Sound of Music.

Anyone that hasn't watched the Ronnie documentary needs to. Anyone that has, the chat in the hotel room with Jimmy White over breakfast is perfection.

I think the Ronnie doc is probably my favourite sports doc of all time You see in real time mental pressure he has to put on himself to perform and how open he is about his struggles and additions and how he copes (or doesn’t) is just about the most human thing I’ve ever seen

So many sports documentaries at the moment are extended Instagram posts or state-funded hagiographies. This one properly slaps, and it's about arguably Britain's most gifted ever sportsperson, who is still out there doing it.

Forget liking snooker or not - it's about the extraordinarily powerful influence our parents can have over us, both good and destructive. The mic'd up clips of him playing, often producing genius, often more or less in the midst of a panic attack, are jaw-dropping.

It's a shame the Ronnie O'Sullivan doc isn't getting more attention, as it's an unvarnished insight into what 'Beckham' and others only hint at: how supernatural sporting talent both fuels, and is fuelled by, the types of mental health challenges and experiences we all share.

What music shall we use for the Ronnie O’Sullivan doc on Amazon Prime? How about Britten’s Ceremony of Carols! Mad and brilliant!
