Remember 13-ish years ago we told designers they should learn to design in code? Great designers started designing boxy layouts for a hot minute because CSS was hard - way harder than today. Thankfully that didn't last long. Nowadays designers armed with AI bring not just code but occasional tech stack and implementation decisions to the table. Not all bad, just uninformed and mildly frustrating sometimes. I don't see it as a stay-in-your-lane problem. Lanes are merging. I'm learning to merge gracefully. As a developer, my goal today is to be the thinnest possible layer between designers and clients, to preserve the fidelity of design that the client signed off on. Full circle, I'm on a project where our designer prompt-designs in the project's repo. This is the way

I haven't engaged much on Twitter/X in years. It's refreshing to see old friends and colleagues popping up in my X feed these days. 👋 Here's a pic of Ellie to brighten the day. She got old. So did I. #AnatolianShepherd

This is a topic I think about **all the time**. Love the casual conversation and great insights. CMSs will evolve against the backdrop of AI, but I expect the next couple of years to feel wonky. The first CMS to concretely frame the question will set the standard... maybe

In a few hours me and the @pineworksco crew will do another installment of our newly sprouted livestream: We Should Talk About This On the Internet. We will talk about if the CMS as we know it is dead in the age of AI. Join us! youtube.com/watch?v=WseSaN1W…

💯 AI occasionally misunderstands, overshoots, has opinions, makes arbitrary judgment calls, notices undiscovered issues, is eager to expand current scope… **just like me**. I am now a macro level PM managing agents astronomically smarter than I am. I ship months of work weekly
Kids, back in my day, we did human code review. I know. Can you imagine? If things got complex, I would pull in more humans. Imagine how expensive a code review would cost. Sometimes a week would pass. And the developer would forget all about the PR. I'm taking about human context window. It was prone to forgetfulness. Anyway after all that, sometimes we would not approve the code. Which meant another round of revisions. Now, we just ask the AI to be an isolated judge and review the code. And then the AI would fix it too. You pay $3 of tokens. The whole thing is completed in 6 minutes.

After using Claude Opus 5 for a while, I don't want smarter models. It has opinions, decides to skip part of a task without a good reason, and tells you it's time to stop and pick up again tomorrow even when the thing is due right now. There must be a sweet spot for IQ level

Agentic-first development seems to amplify ADHD symptoms because you never get into flow. Rather, you wait, wait some more, then try to get your head back into the game to validate a (sometimes overwhelming) pile of code output. Still, I prefer it

Apparently, last year was the last year I spent architecting software, writing code, and collaborating with teammates to establish consensus on such things. Now I direct agents to do that. The shift was sudden and felt oddly natural

Ditto. The political spectrum I'm concerned with is totalitarianism vs liberalism, not left vs right. The "hate speech" obsession is a the totalitarian urge to crush political dissent. It does not belong in the conservative/classical liberal vocabulary
I voted for a lot of things that I'm getting. I did not vote for this. This is the most dangerous thing I've heard an official say in a long time, and that includes the previous administration.

What I love about TypeScript is being able to refactor hundreds of lines of front-end code or write an entire feature without firing up the browser, then having only two or three bugs to fix. But I still hate TypeScript

CMS comparison: Building a motorcyle WordPress: Get a car, tear it apart, weld some parts together till it looks like a motorcycle. Drupal: Get a car factory, retool the machines till they produce motorcyles. Craft CMS: Get materials, build a motorcycle.

CMSs and frameworks are not subject to survival of the fittest, rather to prevailing conditions which they, themselves, influence. Otherwise, Craft and Svelte would be ubiquitous
