The truth about alcohol: 10 points.
1. The best amount is none at all (zero).
2. Alcohol has more calories than sugar and carbs. It can slow weight loss and contribute to weight gain.
3. All alcohol but especially beer can contribute to belly fat accumulation.
4. Beer is calorie dense and so affects weight and belly fat more.
5. Beer is made mostly from barely that contains gluten which can cause bloating, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea and other gut health problems.
6. Most whiskey doesn’t contain gluten but it is much higher in alcohol and so is not necessarily a better option to beer.
7. All spirits are very high in alcohol and should be avoided.
8. Adding sugary drinks to alcohol makes it worse and more calorie rich. Avoid sugary cocktails.
9. Dry red wine also contains alcohol but is a better choice of alcohol. Sweet wine is less desirable.
10. Alcohol is additive. Avoid drinking if you can. But if you must drink, drink less. Limit alcohol to no more than 2 drinks a day and no more than 6 a week. Not all 6 at once or on a weekend 😊.
What qualifies as 1 drink
- 50mls (1.5) of spirits/whiskey (1 shot)
- 150 mls (5oz) of wine
- 350 (12oz) mls of beer

UPDATE: Butabika National Referral Mental Hospital has received a sports arena constructed with funding from Watoto Ministries to support the rehabilitation of mental health patients. Hospital Director Dr Juliet Nakku said the facility would help prepare patients for reintegration into their communities, noting that exercise can stimulate the release of brain chemicals that help alleviate symptoms of mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.

Alcohol is ruining lives and families.😢
And many times we just watch until it’s too late.
We need to do something.
Should governments ban some forms of alcohol?

📌 Kabale
Earlier today, @lgrb_uganda partnered @MinofHealthUG 's Mental Health and Control of Substance Abuse Division to engage the Mental Health Unit at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital on the importance of early support and intervention in preventing and addressing problem gambling (gaming addiction).
"We are currently treating a patient with a gambling problem in our unit. Clinical treatment is good. However, family support is deeply needed." Said the Psychiatric Nurse.
We believe that every conversation about Responsible Gaming can change a life and every action to support a player matters!

“I was beaten out of journalism.”
In 2018, former photojournalist James Akena was attacked by military officers while on assignment in Kampala. The assault changed the course of his life and career.
Today, James is a bartender.
What happens when journalists are left to carry the physical, emotional and financial cost of doing their jobs alone?

Day 2 of Africa Safer Gambling Week
As the week continues, today's message is simple: Know your limit. Play within it.
Safer Gambling Week is about building habits that protect players, and it starts with control. Set a limit before you play, stick to it, and never bet beyond what you can afford to lose.
Because real fun never comes at the cost of your well-being.
