Marie-Claire Hoyle volunteered for an AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine trial. Two weeks after her second dose, she developed transverse myelitis - a rare, serious condition affecting the spinal cord that left her in agonising pain and struggling to use her limbs.
She was reportedly refused compensation because she wasn’t considered disabled enough.
So where exactly is the line? How much suffering is enough? How much function must someone lose before their ordeal counts?
If a person believes they’ve been seriously injured after a medical intervention, shouldn’t they be met with a fair assessment, compassion and a transparent process - rather than feeling they have to prove they’re disabled enough to deserve help?
This isn’t about claiming every illness after vaccination was caused by a vaccine. Timing alone doesn’t prove causation, and each case needs proper medical assessment.
It’s about something bigger: if a serious vaccine injury is established, who takes responsibility for the person left living with the consequences?
We heard so much about collective responsibility during the pandemic. Surely responsibility doesn’t end when the campaign is over.
People deserve answers. They deserve fairness. And they deserve a system that treats them with dignity.

POLICE TURN UP AT MY HOME - THREE CRIMINAL CHARGES OVER FREE SPEECH
“THREE WEEKS OUT FROM AN ELECTION, AND THEY WANT TO DRAG ME BEFORE THE COURTS FOR SPEAKING OUT.” - BRIAN TAMAKI
Just before 8am this morning, two Police officers arrived at my family home to serve me with a summons to appear at Manukau District Court on Monday at 9am.
I am facing THREE criminal charges under Section 131 of the Human Rights Act 1993, relating to allegedly inciting racial disharmony.
The alleged offending dates are between 15 June and 21 June 2026 - the very period I was publicly challenging Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over human rights violations and the persecution of Christians in India.
I believe these charges relate directly to my podcasts and public commentary concerning Modi. I intend to establish precisely which statements Police are relying upon.
Let me make something absolutely clear.
I have never threatened anyone. I have never advocated violence against anyone. I have consistently challenged religious beliefs, religious practices and political leaders - NOT people because of their race.
I have Indian friends. I have people from many different ethnic and cultural backgrounds in my church.
THIS HAS NEVER BEEN ABOUT RACE. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT RELIGION, HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES AND MY CHRISTIAN FAITH.
My calling as a man of God is to be a voice for the people and a guardian of our faith. I will not apologise for defending Christianity or speaking out about Christians being persecuted and killed overseas.
I believe God's Word. Scripture commands His people to have no other gods before Him. I am entitled to preach that conviction.
SINCE WHEN DID DEFENDING PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS BECOME A CRIMINAL OFFENCE IN NEW ZEALAND?
Section 131 of the Human Rights Act concerns statements made with the intent to excite hostility, ill-will, contempt or ridicule against groups of people in New Zealand on the grounds of colour, race, or ethnic or national origins.
I dispute that my statements meet that threshold.
NARENDRA MODI IS A FOREIGN POLITICAL LEADER. CRITICISING HIM AND HIS HUMAN RIGHTS RECORD IS NOT INCITING HOSTILITY AGAINST AN ETHNIC GROUP IN NEW ZEALAND.
And the timing of this prosecution raises serious questions.
We are just three weeks out from a General Election.
Police have already seized my firearms and revoked my firearms licence in circumstances I believe were driven by my public statements. Now I am being summoned to court on criminal charges.
THIS LOOKS LIKE AN ESCALATING CAMPAIGN OF INTIMIDATION AGAINST A CHRISTIAN LEADER WHO REFUSES TO BE SILENCED.
The Attorney-General, Chris Bishop, must explain why he has authorised this prosecution. They can only occur with his approval. The public deserves transparency about how and why these charges have been brought.
Police Minister Mark Mitchell is also on video declaring at a recent public meeting in Tauranga alongside National MP Sam Uffindell that “Brian Tamaki is not welcome here” in this country.
This raises another serious question: why is the Minister of Police making such remarks about a New Zealand citizen who is now facing prosecution from the Police?
And where are the political parties who claim to defend freedom of speech?
National talks about freedom of speech, yet under this Government I am facing criminal charges over my public commentary.
ACT claims to champion free speech, yet its representatives have called for Police action against me.
THEY CAMPAIGN ON FREE SPEECH. BUT WHEN THAT SPEECH CHALLENGES THEIR FRIEND MODI, WHERE DO THEY STAND?
I believe this prosecution is politically motivated. I intend to challenge these charges and defend my right to speak freely, preach my faith and hold foreign political leaders accountable.
I will not be bullied into silence.
I will not surrender my Christian convictions.
And I will not stop speaking up for persecuted Christians.
IF THEY CAN CRIMINALISE MY SPEECH TODAY, WHOSE SPEECH WILL THEY TARGET TOMORROW?
THIS IS BIGGER THAN BRIAN TAMAKI. THIS IS ABOUT THE FUTURE OF FREE SPEECH IN NEW ZEALAND.
