New paper alert🚨 Urbanization plays a crucial role in flood extent changes. Hydroclimatic variability alone cannot explain variability in seasonal surface water. Now out in @CommsEarth nature.com/articles/s43247-0… @VU_IVM @CNDS_Sweden @UniRdg_water @NaturePortfolio

It’s been another great year of fieldwork at this site downstream of the Cameron Peak Fire burn area! This year we saw a big debris flow, multiple other floods, continued riparian veg recovery, and lots of large wood transport!

Great opportunity with a great advisor at a great school!
I'm looking for a new PhD student! Will have some flexibility to choose their project, but will likely involve some combination of groundwater, InSAR, geophysics, process-based and machine learning modeling. If interested, see this link: remote-sensing-hydrology.com…

Excited to work with Nick (a @bse_vt grad) on his PhD!
We welcome Nicholas Christensen to our doctoral program! Nicholas is working with Prof. @ryanrmorrison on network scale hydraulic modeling with simulated stream restoration techniques. He looks forward to rock climbing in Poudre Canyon.

Welcome, @jderbique19!
We welcome @jderbique19 to our master's program! Jack will work with @ryanrmorrison to calibrate 2D hydraulic models to post-fire regions & more accurately depict flood in these regions. "I am looking forward to playing more gigs around local bars & restaurants with a funk band!"

This is a UAV-SfM point cloud and orthophoto of my field site that had a large flood recently. I'm amazed that even in the point cloud, you can see the direction of flow (L to R lines in the light-colored grass) on the floodplain where the grass was laid down. @ryanrmorrison

Have you heard of "BRR?" It's short for "beaver-related restoration," a hot topic in stream restoration! A new study found that BRR increased water storage and reduced stream temperatures in a watershed in Washington state: ow.ly/9zOs50K3Vue 📷 by Benjamin Dittbrenner

Big surprise to find our headwater field site washed away by a flash flood! Sensors are gone...but so many opportunities for new research! Plus, it was a great field day with new students. #largewood #flood #rivers

A study co-authored by @ColoradoStateU #fishecologist Yoichiro Kanno explains how narrow tributaries can rescue fish populations threatened by habitat fragmentation. Read about the implications of this study on Colorado’s #cutthroattrout population at col.st/FbLbZ.
