Time and again, people I follow on social media for their specific expertise seem to reveal a total lack of sense the moment they post about anything outside their field.
If I was Prime Minister , if I was Burnham , watching European cities ablaze . . . I’d instigate a ‘wealth tax’ at about 9.01am tomorrow morning . Just saying . Or should we just ‘eat cake’ ?

After a hectic week sat in front of a laptop, there something deeply relaxing about watching the birds in the garden. Nothing terribly exciting this afternoon: blue tits, great tits, house sparrows, tree creeper, firecrest. Woodpeckers visit in the morning.

Sitting in the garden, enjoying the bird song, with a coffee, and looking across the valley at the freshly ploughed fields. There's a definite taint of something in the air.

Thank you to everyone that commented. Still finding it hard to accept and fully expecting to see her walk through the door, so taking a bit of time offline while things sink in.
Sadly, I lost my shadow last night. She's going to be missed.

"If" and "only" - two small words - words that kept repeating themselves again and again in Janet's thoughts...

It's fascinating how deeply embedded into our culture the idea that we *need* to consume meat to be healthy is - and that abstaining from it is somehow *dangerous*.
I'm astonished how quickly schools are implementing this. My 6-year-old came home today with new lunch menu (which they've never sent home before). Gone are Friday fish & chips, the rest is 99% vegetarian, a lot of legumes/pulses. I'm vegetarian myself but kids need meat/fish 🫪

~85% of the UK's pig population is raised in large-scale intensive or factory-farming units. Do you need a better reason than this for going plant-based? 🌱#GoPlantBased

The recovery from the brink of extinction of European bison is one of the most exciting rewilding stories the world has ever seen.

For most #dairy calves being born and tagged is an immediate death sentence 👺With immediate incarceration on death row. In fact for all newborns in all animal fHarming it is a death sentence. Many of them first live a miserable life of forced pregnancies, forced labor, delivering milk, eggs or just offspring before being murdered. Don’t support this #EndAnimalExploitation #LiveVegan live a justifiable lifestyle ✌️

The uproar is hilarious. God forbid children actually eat a healthy meal once a day. #GoPlantBased

So many exceptions and loopholes make a mockery of the Hunting Act 2004. There's not an ounce of sense or comparison between the riders and their actions. This has to end.
Replying to @NDHuntSabs
With riders and goons on both sides of the river, he was brought to bay and shot about 5 minutes later. The Hunting Act desperately needs a complete overhaul to remove vague exemptions such as “research and observation” which are abused for this disgusting blood sport to continue

What is happening when people think nothing of killing swans, slingshotting parakeets, or torturing a newborn donkey? Has the digital age removed us so far from nature that we've entirely lost empathy for non-human animals?
Newborn donkey tortured and killed and body dumped @MetroUK Wanton cruelty, it makes me despair of humans Why would anyone want to inflict such abuse on an innocent baby animal? It defies belief metro.co.uk/2026/09/13/newbo…

Or perhaps we've reached that saturation point where people see all animals as nothing more than things for human amusement and pleasure.

A fascinating concept: using gene editing to bring back the dodo. I've always found historical museum illustrations and photos of them engrossing - which is likely why I've keenly followed the conservation efforts for New Zealand's native flightless bird, the kakapo. youtu.be/u3TJYiYB6nk?is=IypA…
