🚶🏾‍♂️ WEEKLY WALK THROUGH DYSTOPIAN🔥🌆 OAKLAND. “Hegenbipper Road” Let's take a walk around “the most dangerous square mile in America” -- Hegenberger Rd. In recent days, @innoutburger_ announced a shocking and historic closure, citing crime. @DennysDiner followed suit this week after pleading with the city for help for months to no avail. A family was robbed at a gas station at gunpoint and had all of their belongings stolen - they are currently offering a 10k reward. What I observed: 1. This is Oakland’s International Airport. This commercial corridor is the first thing you see when you enter the city. Most of the businesses are closed, and the few ones remaining are struggling, save for Raising Cane's, who had a long line. (But had to switch to drive-through only due to break-ins) 2. Like many parts of Oakland, illegally parked RV’s, some of them burned out, line the streets. There is a clear pattern here - businesses that are by these RV encampments are fraught with crime and eventually close. 3. It seems the City of Oakland has thrown in the towel. Oakland is tackling its toughest challenge yet. Ignoring this reality and defending failed progressive policies will only lead to political irrelevance. Neighbors are uniting, determined to reclaim our city. ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 ✊✊🏻✊🏼 #WeDeserveBetter #RecallShengThao

Twitter R&D costs being 50% more than @DeepMind is really quite the puzzle.
Twitter cost of rev last qtr was $540m on a rev.on $1.175b. 45% of revenue. It's just an app.

Legacy media hates tech because tech disrupted them.
People might think Matt is overstating this but I literally heard it from NYT reporters at the time. There was a top-down decision that tech could not be covered positively, even when there was a true, newsworthy and positive story. I'd never heard anything like it.

Reporters need to resist the "extremists on both sides" frame, equating @mtgreenee or @CawthornforNC as the GOP foil to @AOC & "The Squad." They're not. Like her or no, @AOC is a serious policy thinker. @mtgreenee is a gutter-dwelling conspiracist with no place in public life.

👏
At this late a stage, resignations help little beyond serving as late attempts at self-preservation. If Sec. Chao objects to yesterday’s events this deeply, she should be working the Cabinet to invoke the 25th amendment - not abdicating the seat that allows her to do so.

Repeating myself and others here, but the reason Lindsey Graham won't get tested despite having been exposed to many COVID+ people is because if he reveals a positive test and has to quarantine the Amy Coney Barrett nomination could get scuttled. There is no other logical reason.

Trying a horrible experiment... Which will the Twitter algorithm pick: Mitch McConnell or Barack Obama?
