Sharing this incredible (and paid) opportunity to live in Palo Alto during the summer and work with these amazing people! #GeneChat I’m tempted to apply to escape TX in the summer 🥵 😅

When the EMR has gone too far… 😱
Each of these items from social history had been marked “resolved” but they were kept and pulled through on every note
(1/3) Often, when asked what I do for a living, Im met with a perplexed look by folks outside of (& sometimes even within) the field of medicine. Heck, even my own Mother doesnt have a good grasp on what it is I do. This lead me to look at some data on types of patients I’ve seen
(2/3) over the last ~1.5 years. Nearly every day as a pediatric geneticist is filled with something interesting or new, thinking critically about every organ system and across every age range. Thinking I should print these out for Thanksgiving dinner discussion, ha
(3/3) I thought maybe you’d enjoy this breakdown, too. #genechat #MedEd #MedicalGenetics
This post is partially inspired by a really cool post adult-geneticist @TDrivas posted a few years back.
“You deserve this information, but you also deserve to know it is not perfect.”
Excellent reflection here. Thanks for sharing!
"Patients deserve physicians’ humble assessment of the accuracy and importance of medical information, an acknowledgment that the information that seems cutting-edge today may not appear accurate tomorrow."
Excellent, as always, @KPCallahanMD.

Catching up with @FaRodriguezMD in TX (!!!) 😍 the highlight of the weekend for sure!
Father’s Day reminds me of the kindness I received from co-residents as a PGY3 covering inpatient for the weekend. Residency training as a parent often meant not seeing your kids awake for weeks at a time. Receiving this “stat page” sending me home early to spend FD with my kids
I’ll never forget their kindness on this day, gifting me 5 hours of Father’s Day fun with my two littles 💙 residency is hard, but I’m grateful I trained at a place with such caring co-residents @stanfordpedsres
Today is Rare Disease Day and it’s a privilege to work in this field everyday! So impressed with the work @RebeccaJLevyMD is doing! #GeneChat #RareDisease
In the U.S., 25 to 30 million people have a rare disease. Ten-year-old Isla Richman is one of them. @RebeccaJLevyMD of @StanfordChild discusses Isla's journey to diagnosis with a rare genetic condition.

What’s an acronym that means something different in your specialty than in the rest of medicine?
“ASD” always throws me off in notes. Are we talking “autism spectrum disorder” or “atrial septal defect”?! #MedTwitter #MedEd

The prior authorization process represents a real barrier to patients with rare disease, their families, and their care teams.
Over 50% of research participants with previous insurance denials for genetic testing had at least one diagnostic or candidate finding on research testing. #insurance #priorauthorization #healthdisparties @tnzion1 bit.ly/3YfQ2Mu

Is genetics education lagging behind the implementation of genetic technology in clinical practice? #Pediatric residents reported lack of knowledge and confidence in discussing genetics topics with patients. # #medicalgeneticseducation #acgme @ryangatesmd bit.ly/3ABVajL
Despite its expanding importance across medicine, this @GIMJournal survey found genetics education is lacking in pediatrics residency programs and residents would benefit from a curriculum teaching basic concepts of genetic testing. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
Such a great group that I’ll miss dearly!
