when people talk about "hollywood" - this is what it actually means. world class craftspeople who bring decades worth of experience and talent to a singular set of images, sets, performances, and stories. most people never get to work with people at this caliber.
If only they’d filmed that moment and put it in the post-credits sequence…
Skydance execs arrived Tuesday at their new Warner Bros offices, opened the books and "were shocked to learn the extent of the loss" on DIGGER: $250M — double what was being reported (via @TheWrap)

I was reposting this because I’d seen DIGGER and the visual language of the film (and the color) is fused with the narrative engine. Easy to see an out of context frame and say “yeah where the hell is the contrast / color???” But the story was brought to life by it
i'm sorry what??
*stares at the DCP of my indie film that is doing well on the festival circuit and who buyers keep balking at purchasing*
Indie film has a strange new problem: Buyers are hungry, and audiences are showing up. There just aren’t enough movies to buy. Ashley Cullins talks to top dealmakers about what’s driving the shortage and what could fix it: mrf.lu/2dyqc
Very excited to learn that STAGES won an audience award at the Nashville Film Festival. We're coming to the tail end of our festival run and to have it resonate so well with the crowds there that *know* the world I was trying to portray on screen means a ton.
Upwards x onwards

nope. closer though. if you read the *text of the article* it says he WANTED to shoot in Arkansas, but had to scout Vancouver as a back up "out of necessity" in the event that the tax breaks didn't come through. almost there!
"Mud" and "Loving" director Jeff Nichols says shooting indie movies in America is "nearly impossible." He shot his next movie, "King Snake," in Arkansas "out of necessity."
"It’s devastating. Studios negotiate contracts with these guilds and unions, and I suppose when they make agreements that they don’t ultimately want to pay for the results if they take production elsewhere. I’ve been in Georgia, and from what I’ve heard it’s been a pretty devastating blow with Disney taking everything to London; the work there has been challenging since this last round of strikes and everything else. The thing is, American independent filmmakers do have to abide by those contracts — and they weren’t built for us. We really need to look, as an industry, at independent film production — what it provides, what it costs — and we need more flexibility in those contracts, and more flexibility from our unions and our guilds in order to make things at different price points so that as independent film producers we have a fighting chance to keep things in the U.S. The truth is, as state-based subsidies continue to change and move, that’s not enough. We have to find ways to have independent film producers stay in the United States, and it’s a massive challenge, so that in between the big studio films there’s a thriving ecosystem of film."

did you guys read your own article? they shot in arkansas, but "scouted Vancouver out of necessity" in the event that the tax incentives didn't come through. but they did, so they shot...in Arkansas.

Grabbed a couple of cameras, some friends, and rolled footage of the Knicks parade celebrating their NBA Finals win back in June. The moment felt bigger than basketball. Tried to articulate it in this street film, Knicks in Five - "Glimpses." youtube.com/watch?v=OO8guyRh…
they definitely saw this ad that Sam and Mattias made: youtube.com/watch?v=lK-wptC0…
(and like that ad, CG is def involved) :) :)
someone has GOT to study the church dudes to AI filmmaker pipeline. i'm telling you. i honestly think they may be the primary users / creators of ai films...
This is a thread of AI filmmakers you should be following. Starting off with @CaptainHaHaa who has developed this delightfully weird H.R. Pufnstuf aesthetic that I absolutely love. This music video is a banger and has become our song of summer.
were they all musicians? absolutely? do you have to "suffer" for it to be art? absolutely not. do i now understand that many of those guys sticking to church gigs were hiding from the fact that if they had to actually compete, to play in clubs, etc...they wouldn't make it? yep...
