It’s insane that the Mariners starting staff went from seemingly invincible to below average all in the span of a couple years. Castillo is gone, Kirby is going to get traded, and Miller might become a bullpen arm
Luis Castillo getting traded is the one positive thing that’s happened in 2026. But don’t tell that to some fans because they wanted a 24 million dollar bullpen arm to stay on the team. Seeing some terrible takes on here today.
Dipoto preaches defense and preventing runs but has somehow built the worst defensive team in all of baseball. All his big money contracts have blown up in his face. He’s going from his best year to his worst year with the organization. He can draft but he can’t find hitters
It was just odd that he’d make that public since his ego was clearly hurt until he ultimately accepted 3B. Randy’s flub in the field yesterday and Castillo glaring at him doesn’t help. Not to mention Castillo freaking out in the dugout when he got pulled.
4.) REALITY
All the highest paid players suck and it’s hard to find a leader when your superstar catcher suddenly becomes the worst catcher in baseball. JP has been awful defensively for years and his bat has never been that great in the first place.
3.) DRAMA
Cal and Randy’s beef was a sign of things to come. JP also tweeting with Mike Cameron who was defending him as a shortstop when Emerson was in talks to replace him was also unnecessary drama. I should note I don’t think JP is a locker room issue
The piggyback stuff is a comedic cherry on top because of how stupid and poorly presented it sounds. Especially when they keep using it then taking it out whenever Gilbert is about to start. Miller got shafted while Gilbert had clear favoritism
Is going to be given way more chances and not sent down in the lineup. Ref was leading off games while hitting close to .130, Cal sucked but they kept putting him in the 2 hole, and Cole Young is still hitting 7 for whatever reason instead of leading off over JP
I’m gonna write a thread for anyone else that hates this baseball team and outline the issues I have with it:
1.) THE OBVIOUS
This is easily the hardest watch of any Mariners team since I started following them in 2021. They don’t have anything going for them
Brendan Donovan has been really good but it feels like he’s only played 5 games all year long. You could tell they were doomed when guys like Vargas got hurt before he even got out of the bullpen in game 1
2.) INJURIES
As much as I hate this team and don’t wanna give them the benefit of the doubt the injuries have played a massive role. You have Julio getting sniped in the back of the head by the Angels and so many hamstring issues that I couldn’t donate my own to save this team
