I think we're about to discover that our computers are FAR more powerful than we realized after AI starts optimizing all the software slop we've been served over the years.
Spotifast 0.12 is out! Spotify, fast, in 200MB of RAM, for all OSs. It now consumes 0% CPU when idle. spotifast.rocks/

I wish people realized what the long game with TPM 2.0 being required in windows 11 is all about. Not only is that information shipped off to Microsoft to track your computers activity along with the GDID and other unique info. But anticheats, game studios, other types of software, etc gather this information as well. And since most companies make more money off selling your data to third parties they have a vested interest in tracking you and your activity as well and reselling it to governments and other companies. Imagine how these "bans" for everything from cheating, piracy, EULA/ToS violations, etc will disrupt and harm peoples lives in the future at the wider scale Banned from Xbox?? Well now you can't login tommorow for Work or 95% of tech jobs at companies because they require windows, Microsoft 365, etc. And you never can again cause your banned at the identity level. Banned from steam? Now you lose all your games and can never purchase a game through steam ever again for life. Banned from google? Now you lose your email, YouTube access, google access, files in google drive, Gemini activity, etc all alternate accounts and their data and every site/service dependent on these emails is now permanently in limbo. Your phone suddenly loses access to authenicator, to your phone backups, to google photos, and becomes a glorified paper weight, and your unable to own a stock android ever again. TPM, Secure Boot, etc will be the enforcement mechanisms at the OS and hardware layers down the line for attestation, "lock in", etc.
Anon buys a used CPU, Ryzen 7 5800X3D, and then finds out that “Valorant” and other Riot games won’t start, because the previous owner of the CPU was a cheater, thus the CPU ID/serial number got blacklisted in their system ☠️
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Riot hardware bans last a maximum of 4 months, are game-specific, and do not automatically blacklist unrelated components, per Riot's head of anticheat; support provides remaining time and allows review requests in most cases. x.com/deteccphilippe… support.riotgames.com/league-of-lege… support.riotgames.com/en-us/riot/per…

Most of my nvme SSDs I paid $89 per 2TB and $200 per 4TB with TLC+DRAM. Last was 4TB Samsung 990 Pro for $299. It is just painful to see prices now.

My MacBook was worth $8,000 when I posted this. It's now worth $12,000. My RTX 5090s were worth $3,500 when I posted this. They're now up to $7,000. I hope you bought all the compute you need 🙃
If you want to buy a new computer and you’re waiting for prices to go down, you should probably stop waiting and just buy it now. It’s gonna get worse before it gets better.

The most unholy Framework Desktop build we’ve seen.
If you're not subscribed @tekwendell on YouTube then you absolutely should right now! Heck, follow him on X too! I honestly didn't even know this PCIe 5 bridge existed. I love the idea of using a bridge to give GPU's high bandwidth line of sight! 👏 youtu.be/RfkeZ0HciA0?si=0K1p…

For context, this is 4x the number of pixels on Quest 3’s color cameras and only about 8% less than Apple Vision Pro’s sensors. As a 10g add-on module!

The process of rooting the Quest Pro (and all of Meta's devices) has absolutely radicalized me. I can't believe so many human hours have been spent making devices worse and less usable. It's actually unbelievable.

>Valve shuts down the steam store >My PC stays a PC >Sony shuts down the playstation store >My PS5 is now a paperweight Why is this so complicated to understand for some people
Selling your PlayStation because they are no longer releasing discs and going to PC that already does not have discs is about the most moronic thing I've seen people do.

Welp. Glad I bought a few 2/4 TB NVMe two years ago. Not going to be happy the day one of them dies!

I find it so funny when younger developers are like "Older games cheated! It's not actually reflections, they just render the room twice!" Yeah, and their render pipeline takes 2ms to complete and your takes 43ms.

What justification could there ever have been for removing/replacing this login dialog? It was a solved problem, it didn't have to be done. The fault lays at the feet of whoever did the design on 10.7/Lion, but it's worse now.

If your IDE isn't a tmux running Vim over SSH into a Linux prod box with a 9000 day uptime are you even programming?
