venice ai: 3M users, $65M raised at a $1B valuation, privacy-focused. Chat history is stored on the device in RxDB, and they stream LLM tokens straight into the database. How they built it: lnkd.in/p/emvRzbAr
Nostr fixes identity, not storage. So RxDB 17.6.0 uses Nostr relays only to let peers find each other, and the data goes device to device over WebRTC. A p2p app with no server of your own: linkedin.com/feed/update/urn…

Last week I disabled GitHub Issues on most Laravel open-source packages.
If you hit a bug, describe it to a coding agent and open a PR. Even if the code isn't great, that's fine - code can be iterated on. The PR still documents the problem, and a proper fix can follow.
I suspect this will soon be how most open-source libraries operate.
Dark mode was a mistake. It does not save your battery, 87% of the web ignores it, and light text in a dark room measured as the worst case in a 2017 reading study. Just adjust your screen brightness: lnkd.in/p/exBRPVvD
In 2016 I bet that all UI apps will be built in JavaScript and built RxDB for that world. My next bet: people will run AI local-first. Model capability density doubles every 3.5 months, so 'good enough on your phone' has a date. My dates: linkedin.com/posts/danielmey…
REST APIs grow with every feature you ship. Sync endpoints do not grow at all. 3 endpoints per entity: pull, push, change stream. Every new feature becomes a database query on the client. I wrote up why: linkedin.com/posts/danielmey…
WebMCP is underrated. Google and Microsoft are building a browser API where your website registers JavaScript functions as tools for AI agents, no scraping, no separate API: linkedin.com/posts/danielmey…
SEO is dying. RxDB ranks the same on Google as before, some keywords better than ever, but clicks fall month after month. The searchers moved to AI. I wrote up what I am changing because of it: linkedin.com/posts/danielmey…
Your app breaks the moment the wifi drops. An elevator, a train, a parking garage. Users will not ask for offline support, they will just leave. I wrote up how to build apps that keep working without a connection:

MongoDB shut down Atlas Device Sync 10 months ago. Realm still gets 221k npm downloads per month. I wrote up the three realistic migration paths for stranded teams: linkedin.com/posts/danielmey…
The lead of the Solid project built a replication plugin for RxDB. Your app's database can now sync into a data pod that the user owns. I wrote up why Solid pods plus local-first are the future: linkedin.com/posts/danielmey…

Local-first Sync Engine
Edge 10/10 · Local-first Sync emits a JSON last-write-wins patch over all known localStorage notes, mesh tx ledger, recipients, health inventory, weather, cache. Import sets-merge on arrays by id/hash, LWW for the rest. Automerge / RxDB hook standing by.
Just released RxDB 17.0.0-beta.25 🥳
This is likely the latest beta release of RxDB version 17. The major release is planned for Monday, 30 March. Please test.

Just published expo-opfs. If you're building an @expo app and want to use a web library that needs the Origin Private File System (OPFS), this polyfill based on expo-filesystem makes it work out of the box.

The browser is your database: The #ThickClient is making a comeback. Here’s how next-generation local databases like PGlite and RxDB are bringing feature-rich #DataStorage to the browser. infoworld.com/article/413364…

Working with @rxdbjs and feeling a blast.
Tried @convex, but i'm still a @supabase fan too much to drop it.
Looked at @ElectricSQL and @tan_stack db, and it's meaning good, but requires hosting, adding more complexity, plus does feel quite ready.
But RxDb is fire.

A hill I’ll run to the top to die on is that FRP really is the right way to do UI (and note to self to return to my little side project to integrate <react-rxjs.org/> and <rxdb.info/>).
