Time to introduce our second #PLATIAL'26 keynote talk by Alice Butler-Warke. The keynote will examine how negative reputations of places develop, become entrenched, and are maintained. Several interrelated sub-processes will be considered: naming, shaming, and blaming.

Together with @acedoalbert, I published a new article in @JournalURP: doi.org/10.1080/17535069.202…. We examine the polygons of areas associated with people's meaningful places. Using logistic regression, we relate geometric complexity to dimensions of sense of place. 1/7

Our results show three trends: many variables of sense of place correlate with vertex counts; those variables of sense of place that require deeper personal reflection correlate positively with geometric complexity beyond vertex counts; utilitarian dimensions correlate least. 6/7

Our findings can be applied to a variety of areas: participatory planning can benefit from a better understanding of acquired geometries; we learn about the translation process from place to space; we contribute to learning about representation complexity, among other things. 7/7
