Pascasie Umuhoza, the District Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, urges the residents to build in safer locations and equip homes with lightning protection to reduce disaster risks and safeguard lives.
Implemented by MINEMA, the CERC Project rehabilitated and constructed over 5,000 houses across districts affected by disasters in 2023.
The houses also serve as models of disaster-resilient construction, inspiring other communities to adopt safer and more resilient building practices.
From 13–15 October 2026, ACP Egide MUGWIZA, DG of Response and Recovery Operations, represented Rwanda at the International Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience in Africa held in Maputo, Mozambique, convened by the African Union Commission to advance proactive governance, disaster preparedness and strategic investment in resilience.
He emphasized the need for resilient recovery financing, stronger multi-hazard early warning systems and investment in anticipatory actions, urging African countries to ensure recovery is not an afterthought, but a cornerstone of resilience agenda.

At the 77th Session of the @Refugees Executive Committee #ExCom77 at @UNGeneva, Rwanda called for practical approaches that go beyond emergency humanitarian responses to deliver durable solutions for refugees and host communities.
Delivering Rwanda’s National Statement, Amb. @urujeniB highlighted Rwanda’s efforts to provide protection, expand access to education, healthcare and livelihoods, and promote refugee self-reliance.
Rwanda urged Member States and partners to tackle the root causes of displacement, invest in host communities and translate shared responsibility into concrete action that restores dignity and creates opportunities.

The beneficiaries have pledged to safeguard their new homes and continue implementing disaster risk reduction measures.
The initiative is part of the Government’s broader efforts to support disaster-affected families across Northern, Western & Southern Provinces.
Today, Rwanda received 369 Rwandan returnees from the Democratic Republic of Congo through the La Corniche One Stop Border Post in @RubavuDistrict and Rusizi I Border Post. The returnees comprised 228 women and 141 men; 316 from Goma and 53 from Bukavu. They were received by local authorities and @RefugeesRwanda.
The returnees were transported to Kijote Transit Centre, where they will receive further assistance before being reintegrated into their respective communities across the country. Rwanda continues to uphold its commitment to receiving its nationals and ensuring their safe, dignified and sustainable reintegration.

🛑UPDATE: A total of 367 Rwandans from 113 families who had been living in the Democratic Republic of Congo have returned to Rwanda through the La Corniche and Rusizi I border crossings.
The returnees will be temporarily accommodated at Kijote Camp in Nyabihu District before being reunited with their relatives in Rwanda.
