#OnThisDay in 1666, the English fleet under Prince Rupert finally wins a two day naval battle against de Rutyer's Dutch fleet. In England, this was known as the St James' Day Battle since they dated it as July 25th under the Julian calendar.

Today we had a service at St George’s Chapel, Ypres for a re commemoration of the plaque dedicated to the fallen of St Dunston’s College. We then laid wreaths at Tyne Cot before finishing at the Menin Gate.
Come and join in the Rupert’s participation game and storm the siege of Bristol! #Warfare2018

This was the film that made the period come to life. Looking back the kit is dodgy, but the grit, cruelty and lawlessness sums up the 30 years war. It got me and my mates hooked on wargaming, then reenacting the period and the rest is history..... @rupertsbc @godolphinsrof
#ECWonFilm Films featuring the #EnglishCivilWar: Slight cheat for variety today and a rare film set in the #ThirtyYearsWar, the 1971 movie 'The Last Valley' starring Michael Caine (with a German accent) & Omar Sharif. Worth seeking out as is very atmospheric. #17thCentury #film

Spot on comment here.
Not a big fan of the #WW1 'Last 100 Days' #RoadtoPeace narrative. My understanding is that it was, if anything, the road to *victory*. Our service men & women were awarded a 'Victory', not a 'peace', medal after all! Case of 21stC attitude retro-fitted to 20thC events? Or worse?
