This is the one where the dogs get up earlier I think…. I want to stick with the one where dogs sleep in.
The clocks fall back a week from Sunday. This is what time the sun goes down that day where you live.

I often think the difference between my childhood and my kid’s is how close I was to the sources of production versus how distant those experiences are for them. As a kid holding a bowl of rice, I thought of my grandparents kneeling in the rice paddies, not the grocery store. Holding a plastic toy, I pictured the injection molding machine running day and night at the shop across the street, not Toys “R” Us. We collected still-hot defective parts straight from the molds as toys. Cooking chicken thighs, I recalled how long it took Grandma to slaughter and clean them, not Costco packaging. Holding a glass bottle, I thought of the old man on the corner recycling them on his tricycle back to the factory. Production happened around us; we saw the effort required to get things to the table. That closeness bred gratitude for food, clothes, and shoes because they were tied to people we knew.

Indeed, Halloween candy's achieved, "Hell no!" pricing. Even with that "buy and extra for a buck" nonsense. This year for Halloween, I'm handing out little "Invest this" cards with singles and fives in them, taped to toothbrushes. On principle.

(BTW, Shrinkflation Lords... I can make way better junk food, including candy, from scratch. For pennies on the dollar). Joe, put all Halloween candy on your Dorito/mayo index. @TheStalwart

Just linked my @X, Cursor, & @Bot. Now I have enough compute for my Numbers Bot to apologize ("You're right, I did ignore your rule again. Sorry for reverting your sheet!") and still be productive. But really, I was wondering this: Why is dealing with unintentional Disney, HBO, Netflix, ESPN etc... bundles the seventh circle of hell... And this... "You sure? Okay! Done!" It's magic!

Love this @poteto. No agent writes for me. My writing--it's simply better. Yes, the em dash is mine. I'll die on the Oxford Comma hill. But if you ever get a text, post, or email from me, you know it'll be me.
i love writing. i never let agents write for me. whether it's docs, or tweets, or shitposts, or even prompts (okay maybe that one's harder as agents manage other agents) there's a simple reason for that: i still strongly believe that writing is thinking. it's a skill i hope to never give up. it's also important to me that whatever i say is always authentic, mistakes and all. my favorite posts are the ones that i just full send without any editing i suspect it also helps with prompting. being able to clearly express what i want, and knowing the vocabulary i need to be able to direct my agents does seem to make for more effective usage of agents. in the same way that engineers have an advantage when we prompt agents to write code, because we are intimately familiar with the words that make up the discipline knowing the right word incantations to get an agent to produce a desired goal almost feels like spellcasting. as models get more capable, and that input box looks more and more like a magic box that can output anything, words become the interface between you and the genie there may come a time when we give up the keyboard in exchange for brain-computer interfaces. but until then, i'm writing every word.

Rhode Island--the smallest state with the biggest pumpkin. That took up two towns, right there! Nicely done! Hope we all get some pie...
There’s a new world record pumpkin and it’s absolutely electric! Ron Wallace of Rhode Island smashed the previous world record by over 300 pounds and is the first person to ever grow a pumpkin over 3,000 pounds! Official weight: 3,156 pounds! Video credit to northeastgiantpumpkin on Instagram. Well done, Ron!

Great design!! Beautiful!! If it ends up as easy to use as it looks.... wow. I've written satire about trying to use state/federal/insurance/marketplace sites. When the DMV or IRS' site is better than yours... you've got issues. There is no reason every website can't be "Amazon easy." I mean: You want compliance? ==> make it easy! You want (more) data (than I really want to give)? ==> make it fun and beneficial. You want my money? ==> gosh darnit, let me click to pay! The only thing that's missing is the ad-free upgrade;) And that slogan.... I'm really looking forward to it for all of eternity. (Big high five: @jgebbia)

The nor’easter lashing Nantucket with wind and rain this weekend has uncovered the remains of a shipwreck along the island’s south shore. The fragment is likely from the 19th century schooner Warren Sawyer, a wooden ship that wrecked near Miacomet Beach on December 22, 1884.

Let there be light! Giving a strong 10/10 rating for the @wearerienergy power crews who got the lights back on way faster than I planned for.

Odd delivery charge structure from Home Depot... Wanted to pick "deliver after the storm" rather than "today" because nobody's putting this up in a Nor'easter anyway. But... Guess I'll pick today!

"We want to let you know about an upcoming change to your subscription..." Reply: "Thanks, I want to let you know I canceled last week." I culled 80% of streaming, subscriptions, and autorenews. Felt good. My issue: the bundles. I don't want to be forced to subscribe to 3 or 4 things in a mystery bundle when I'm really only there for one 2-month show. I don't want seven options of "ad free," "semi-ad free," "Only Superbowl ads" ... just give me the service! "Did I get it through the phone? Amazon, Roku, Apple TV? The FBI couldn't find half my subscriptions or the path to unsubscribe. If you get it wrong, "We find no record, try (one of the 7 other possibilities)." My new rules: 1/ If I need a PhD to figure out a subscription path and a CS degree to unsubscribe, gone! 2/ No more bundles. Only direct subscriptions. 3/ If I cancel and it takes my family more than two weeks to figure out "their thing" is gone... "You're welcome to resubscribe yourselves." So far, 3 streaming subscriptions gone. 2 annual subscriptions. 2 substacks. Next targets: Redundant storage and kid's Adobe his film class requires. "Mom, I hate Adobe, I'm using DaVinci." Operation Simplify has begun.

Here's my @bot Win of the Day: It's tax extension season and I'm missing one thing--my mileage report. My tracker sheet has holes. So, I asked my Chief of Staff Bot, Leo McGarry, to complete the report based on my work credit card's 2025 spending report. It's clear where I've run work errands. It asked 2 questions, added everything in, and spit out an IRS-compliant sheet based on 2025 allowances. I've been getting a little frustrated with compute-eating bots, but this--4% compute well spent. Thanks, Leo @bot!

There's never been a better time to be alive. But I've got some learning to do. I’m watching people build holograms of Steve Jobs and teleportation devices to Mars while I’m just trying to get Leo to stop eating 30% of my compute every time I ask him to find a doc could’ve found in 10 minutes. I'm asking my bots to teach me, "How can I do this the easiest way instead of having to find the answer at the peak of Mount Everest? Teach me." My formative career years were in red tape industries: Insurance & education. The mottos: --"To make a simple thing impossible." --"Good luck with that." --"You want to do what? Hahahahaha..." I have really heavy-lifting skills in "by any means necessary." If you need to fight a 1980's Soviet bureaucrat--I'm your hero. And that's sometimes how I feel directing my bots. "You're going to be a member of the permanent underclass!" "A bot will do your job by December!" These are direct quotes from my tech friends. I'm not building a company or curing cancer. I just want to recognize, "A bot can do this while I drink coffee." Today: the mileage tracker, tomorrow… the world. Looking forward to seeing what all of you are building.
