Deadline is 10th Feb to apply for these PhD projects with me here @StAndrewsSGSD
Replying to @StAndrewsSGSD
@rtstreeter is an environmental geographer interested in volcanic ash and tephrochronology of Iceland. He is looking for #PhD students on two topics, one on spatial variation in nutrients in Icelandic tundra...

A fantastic week at #EGU23 in Vienna. I had the chance to present my research on soil erosion monitoring in the Arctic tundra. It was great to meet old and new colleagues and explore all the exciting research that is going on. Thanks for the support @ScotArcticNet #ArcticScot

📢NEW POSTS: come and work with us 🤩. We are looking for 2x #physical #geography colleagues: 👉1 Senior Lecturer/Reader vacancies.st-andrews.ac.uk/V… AND 👉 1 Lecturer/Senior Lecturer with expertise in #remotesensing vacancies.st-andrews.ac.uk/V…
This time 5 yrs ago me and @biophys_nick were in Iceland mapping erosion spots with #drones We spent 10 days in the north east of Iceland and mapped 12 sites. We were interested in where in the landscape erosion spots occured
It was the first time we had used drones, so a bit of a learning curve, but we ended up with a great dataset and a new perspective on the landscape. The data and findings from that trip went into this paper: doi.org/10.1002/ldr.3585
Since then @GKodl has started working on this project and we have mapped a whole load more sites in Iceland, installed a series of temp and soil moisture loggers, and this year started working at a site in Finland

What looks very much like dry heath on a lowland raised bog. Old (veg) & new (drone) tech survey prior to restoration with @KHRoucoux @rtstreeter & Ian Lawson. @ScotWildlife @PeatlandACTION
A hot afternoon with the @StAndrewsSGSD P4 multispectral drone surveying a peatland in Fife so that we can construct a DEM and vegetation map - helping out @KHRoucoux @PalyAlly and Ian Lawson who are working at this site.

This paper launches our updated and upgraded article format! We’ve implemented many suggestions for improvements, as well as building in further streamlined links between submission materials and our typesetting workflow!
New paper! Morison, C. and Streeter, R. (2022) “The influence of vegetation cover on the grain-size distributions and thicknesses of two Icelandic tephra layers”, Volcanica, 5(2), pp. 227–248.

Great to see Conner’s paper published! Conner undertook this work during his research masters @StAndrewsSGSD and @WW_Koster helped me out with the #tephra sample collection during a trip to south Iceland in 2019.

Eruption has started near Fagradalsfjall. Exact location has yet to be confirmed.
Great to see this paper modelling spring snow conditions at medieval settlements in #iceland and Norse #Greenland published - its been a long process, with the snow measurements collected 8 (!) years ago authors.elsevier.com/sd/arti…

Today we installed soil moisture and temperature data loggers in a shallow depression at Kilipsjärvi, to better understand plant stress across topographical gradients and how this might be reflected in the drone remote sensing data @juliakemppinen @StAndrewsSGSD
This set up mirrors the existing loggers we have deployed in a shallow depression in the north of Iceland. Its going to be really interesting to compare the sites!
I’m heading home now, but I’ve had a great week of fieldwork, and it was a real pleasure to meet @juliakemppinen and @PONiittynen and have them show us the area and share their plant knowledge and enthusiasm - a huge thank you!
