🇺🇸 TRUMP SOFTENS COFFEE TARIFFS: LATIN AMERICA GETS A BREAK Trump just reversed course on coffee. Tariffs dropping on imports from Argentina, Ecuador, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Roasters celebrating. Consumers getting cheaper lattes before the holiday rush hits. The shift stabilizes supply chains while keeping "America First" intact. The twist? This ain't a full trade war surrender. It's strategic relief amid the tariff storm. Trump's walking the tightrope: ease pain where it matters, keep the armor up everywhere else. Coffee prices cool down. Trade tensions? Still hot. Source: Axios
🇲🇽 MEXICO’S SWEET WALL: 156% TARIFF HITS SUGAR IMPORTS Mexico just walloped sugar imports with a brutal 156% tariff after falling international prices threatened domestic oversupply. Refined liquid sugar gets hammered even harder at 210.44%. Carlos Blackaller from Mexico's sugarcane producers called it "greater protection for domestic product" that "practically eliminates the possibility of sugar imports." Translation: Mexican sugar just got a government-mandated price boost. Mexico typically produces 5 million tons annually, with 4 million for local consumption. But three bad weather seasons forced them to import over 1 million tons, sparking protectionist panic. Bad news for coffee chains sourcing cheap sugar. Your pumpkin spice latte addiction just got more expensive, courtesy of President Claudia Sheinbaum's trade war on sweetness. Source: Reuters
