This is the month that this baby launches! "Hacking the Underground: Disability, Infrastructure, and London's Public Transport System." It's published by @UWAPress, in the Feminist Technosciences series. A 🧵.

I'm also behind on promotion! This conversation with Lee Vinsel, recorded in April, was a joy. I'd just returned from the annual meeting of the Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy, and you can definitely tell. athenaeum.vt.domains/peoples…
Yeah. I've been sick this week so I'm behind on promotion and such, but it was really fun to talk to my buddy @rsvelho in this episode of Peoples & Things. Raquel's work is exemplary in a number of ways, and I so enjoy thinking with her.

I am still thinking *a lot* about American pragmatism and infrastructure studies; working on some intellectual histories there. Plus, quick update on the Arecibo project: that's a go-ahead! I've received funding for it and am heading on sabbatical to focus on this research!

I can share this now that it's been 2 years since my father passed away (after 10 years of illness). He passed away days before the semester began, book revisions were due, academia had to keep going for me.
My @insidehighered piece explores the pressure to continue as normal in academia during life changes, a pressure I've had to navigate since my brother's unexpected passing -- I'd love to learn how others have navigated a work-life balance⚖️ insidehighered.com/opinion/c…

And then, when everything was handed in this summer, tenure portfolio and all, I completely fell apart. Grieving and mourning caught up to me, in ways I'd never been given tools to deal with, and boy oh boy, it was/is a wild ride.

While I now get to celebrate tenure, it's an even wilder thing to only now, two years on, feel myself that I'm actually grieving in a healthy way, being given (by myself and others) space to do so.

So exciting to see my book out there! It's also true: @AlansTweets opens (and closes) this book. Though it pains me deeply that Alan didn't get a chance to read this version of the work, it comforts me that his contributions live here, too.
Received a copy of this lovely book this morning from @rsvelho made me smile and then cry as first few pages mentioned phenomenal @AlansTweets

Have only just learned that @AlansTweets is not longer with us. He was a force. I am grateful for every word and moment he has ever shared with me. I'm so, so glad to have met him.
Everyone at Transport for All is heartbroken by Alan Benson's passing. Alan was an astounding campaigner and ambassador for the disabled community, our Board Co-Chair, and our friend. Our thoughts are with Yvonne, Alan's family, and all who knew him.

Are you an STS scholar in a higher education setting, teaching STS? Planning on coming to 4S/EASST in Amsterdam? I've put together a panel that I hope to be a share-out, P322 "The Places of STS in Higher Education Institutions" nomadit.co.uk/conference/eas…

This includes a syllabus and curriculum share-out, and overall discussion of what our programs in STS at the undergraduate level are attempting to accomplish. What goals do we have for these programs?

I think these questions are particularly pressing in an environment where higher education is becoming increasingly targeted towards "what careers can I do with this degree."

Final call for today's Cafézim: it'll likely be a small community gathering - we're all tired, I'm sure. <3
I'm excited to say that thanks to gentle nudges from people who've enjoyed having #Cafezim as a collective informal space for discussions, we're back for a singular meeting this semester to discuss "Academia and Burnout." Register here: us02web.zoom.us/meeting/regi…

In light of it being job application season as people write their teaching statements, I really cannot emphasize this enough: it's Paulo Freire. Not Paolo Freire, or Paulo Friere.
